natosig, are you aware, that the windscreen trims in a GC/D Galant are stainless strips? 6 in total.
They are not the plastic chrome strip as fitted to the GA/B Galants and GA/B/C/D wagons (they all share the same screen and rubbers).
Nor are they like the stainless trims that are fitted to the Sigma's or Lancer Hatches.

The Stainless trims must be fitted to the rubber before installation. We had the same problem (of being difficult) with 77galantv6's new windscreen rubber and stainless trims. The windscreen fitting guys have taken the rubber, trims and screen, back to their workshop to fit the trims. They said to me on the phone, that it is a six person job. I had a go myself the night before they came, and the biggest problem I found, was the softness of the rubber itself. I was hoping the windscreen guys themselves had knowledge of the easy way to fit them
But it didn't seem that way?

Installing the rubber itself is a very simple process, involving wrapping small section nylon around the outside of the window rubber (that is already fitted on the screen) in the channel where it is fitted to the body. Get a second person to provide a small amount of pressure (mainly just to stop the windscreen from moving from it's desired position) and then pull the rope from the inside of the car. The inner rubber edge of the rubber fill then fall on the inside of the body, the same as the old one. I usually wrap the rope around twice just to make sure, when I'm pulling it in, that it seats properly.

The rubber really should go on the glass first but it the rubber is as pliable as Dave said you may be able to do it the other way around.
I am guessing no one watched the video I linked as it shows you exactly how to do it, and the way everyone has said to do it is on the video. It is for an old chev but the fitment to the car is exactly how you need to do it for a Galant, and the chev also has stainless trims that need to be fitted BEFORE instalation.
It is worth watching.

could you use a "newer" windscreen rubber without the chrome strips?

like what the new cars use

Hiya Guys,
i know this thread is a little old, but I think its applicable. I am planning on repairing the rust around the windscreen of my GH wagon. The orig owner had taken the trim off and used some sorta silicon/sealent in its place. I managed to get this and the original rubber seal out from around the windscreen.

Sadly the video posted earlier tells me its not avilable, however from reading other posts etc, it looks like i should just be able to stick it out in the sun for a while, then more or less lift the glass out. Is this correct.

Also once i have done the repairs, is it still possible to get the rubbers for these?

I have done a fair bit of mechanical/body work stuff over the years but never messed with glass, so any help would be appreciated.

The Sigmas don't use rubber on the front and rear screens. They re glued in with sealant.

Leaving it in the sun may help, but it won't just lift out. Generally I cut them out with some fine high tensile wire, or alternatively cut them out with a stanley knife. Beware that using the stanley knife is very likely to scratch the body so I'd only use it on a parts car or if you were planning on respraying it.

yeah i was starting to suspect that C_Fernance. Is there a specific product to use when re-sealing the window that you know of?
I have it mostly released and am just waiting on some extra hands to help me lift the glass. :)
