Strut Brace for sigma?

Other than that, you could always adapt something from another car.

Is this for a road car ? If so, it's probably a WOFTAM & won't make any meaningful difference to the handling.

Strut braces can be useful in rally cars to stop the strut towers moving under severe punishment, or in circuit cars where chassis stiffness is likely to be important. No point in a road car IMHO.

D'OH if I had done a search on here before i posted my question i would have seen some others with strut braces

PANDA used a WRX one, then fabricated some mounts, nice work I think this is the way to go.

The car is used for Autocoss, Khanacross and maybe one day when it grows up it will compete in some rallies.

It won't be a nice shiny one, it will be built with a purpose in mind

(although it looks much neater know that I have given it a coat of matt black).

If you set something up that is easily removed, it's much less of a PITA working on the motor (I just have to undo 1 bolt & it tilts out of the way ... brackets are welded to the strut tower). Only improvement I want to make sometime is to put a crush tube through the holes to spread the load more

Does anyone know if the Toyota AE86 strut tower bolts spacing is the same as the GE/GH 3 bolt Sigma ones? Looks similar:

I think an adjustable one from a S13 wouldn't be too far away from a bolt on fit.
Once the hardtop is running I will go to a mates shop and let you know, if it hasn't been solved before that.

this gets my vote --- I used coil overs with 300 pound springs - adjustable camber , caster and toe - use quite sticky tyres and have run on quick circuits including Phillip Island and dont use a strut brace
in fact I've never felt the need for tieing up the FE , the sigma FE is pretty tight and steers quite well with out one

unless you were going to slicks I dout you would notice any difference

Making the rear end stick is a better option to cut down over steer

Galant measures 820mm from inside bolt to inside bolt.
S13 measure 950mm


Can you buy them for 1600's (510) ?? Maybe they might be wide enough

I just measured up my GE Sigma and it's 855mm from inside bolt to inside bolt.

**edit** for something even more "hardcore", how about a tri-bar? This one is from another AE86:



Also, I found out a KE70 Corolla has the same strut top mounting as the AE86, but the strut tops are a bit further apart, but if you use an adjustable strut bar, it fits both models.

**edit again** I found out (check link below) that a KP60 Starlet (which has the same engine bay and strut dimensions as an AE86 apparently) measures 965mm from centre of strut tower to centre of strut tower. My GE Sigma measures 975mm for the same dimension, so an adjustable strut bar might be the ticket!

Ford Falcon of the early to mid 60's run (XK-XP) run extra strips of body work from the strut tower to the firewall (much like the triandle setup, but without the main beam running accross the engine) maybe fabricating some brackets and doing the same sort of thing may give the car a nostalgic/factory appeal to the car...and give you (even if it is just a little bit) extra strength in the engine bay

Good idea. Volvo 240s also have a similar strut-to-firewall bars setup, they are bolt-on. I've got a couple of these bars in the garage somewhere, I'll look into adapting these maybe too. Good idea!

i had a nissan strut brace on my GH, just had to drill new holes in the plates, think it was an r32 one but it couldve been a silvia one too
