need axels PCD redrilled....where can this be done?

Post by Rally_2.6LC »

Hey guys I bought a shortened Hilux LSD diff that came in an GA, problem is it was originally out of an Escort Rally car so it has 4x100 stud pattern. I need to get these axels redrilled to suit our stud pattern, does anyone know where i can get this done in Syd and roughly how much it costs?
Im located in Ryde and dont want to have to travel too far.

4-stud to 4-stud won't require any welding, you just make additional holes. Welding up holes on an axle makes it more brittle which is not a good thing. Whilst they are doing the stud pattern change, check out the centre bore on the axle, ideally you want the wheels located on the hub. It may be wrong or it may be dependent on the brake setup, but it's worthwhile having a look at it.

Going from 4x114.3 to 5x114.3 would require no welding either, using one common hole you will end up with 9 holes. This is how they do wheels, don't know if it would be strong enough for studs?

This is a 4 and 5 stud 114.3 wheel

Most multi fit 4 stud wheels will have 4x100 and 4x114.3.
So you Could just use the wheels front and rear with out mods.

But as has been said, any engineering shop can do this for you,
Knock the current studs out, and they will redrill the new pattern in the area between your current holes.
And you just pull the studs back in.
May want to buy new studs??

Then buy your new disks to suit and may have to remount your Brake calipers to suit disks??

Thanks guys.
Just looking at going 4 to 4 stud pattern. Dont want to run multi stud wheels, i dont trust them (not for rallying).
Discs are fine, the diff is set up well, just the wrong PCD. And as far as im aware they will just need redrilling, not welding up but will ask.

If you are going from 4x100 to 4x114.3 then any good machine shop will be able to drill the extra holes and you will end up with 8 holes in ya axle

so current PCD is std Escort ??

if it is then multi hole rims wont fit unless you can find some with a 4x108 pcd best to stick to your original plan

any engineering shop could do it, even i have done it @ home on a drill press

Drill Press....wow your game lol, I dont trust myself that much.
One thing i didnt think of is that I will need new disc's now :( gotta figure out what they were off....or just go Starion conversion, as im going Starion front's with a Starion master cyilnder, at least the bias would be even then......

^^^ not really hard , thats how the engineering shop do it , using a template , take your time mark it out check twice and make any corrections then drill , using a steady slow speed in a well mounted drill press vise( you do need an industrial drill press, for length and adjustment), i too have done it before ,its when going five stud from 4 or visa versa it gets really critical you know what you are doing. Being in ryde I would use either Diff Trans at silverwater or Award diffs at seven hills .and escort is 108 not 100 pcd ( same as peugot, renault)

^spot on

I usually use a disc or drum for a template, if theres a difference in center bore size get this sorted first with either fabricated rings or by having the hub turned down, this area is more crucial than having the studs perfect as its what takes the weight and locates the wheel

Can you use the current brakes and just redrill them too ??

Havent had it done yet, but my mate who works at an engineering place near me said he will do them for me.
He has made a few things for my various cars.

Thanks for the offer Mark.
