just to bump this up, i have bought a complete front suspension/subframe assy from a S14 .

going to try and merge them so my scorp has 4 pots, and rack and pinion steering.
its a track car so legalities arent a concern.

going to be a month or so before i get it delivered but itll be interesting to see how similar they are as far as mount points etc go,

this thread offerec so much hope for me :@

im in no way knowledgeable enough to know what components to merge to try and fit stuff. but from this thread the setup id like to run would be s13 coilovers upfront. but i duno if 14" wheels would clear s13 brakes, or if the sigma rotors are interchangeable, or what parts id need to keep from either the s13, the galant, or the sigma struts im currently running to make it work somehow

Hi kenvv, guess what's hanging up in my garage? A pair of TEIN coil overs from an S13. Was going to butcher them for another project. Interested?

Tein stuff is overrated and average quality at best IMO, not much scope for adjustment and a fair bit too soft for anything more serious than the occasional track day. No good for more serious track work or drifting. Ride quality's apparently pretty good though, so they'd be good for a streeter.
None of this is personal experience, so I could be wrong, but that's what I've heard. Most of the Corolla guys rate BC and HSD over Tiens, but they're drifters for the most part.

On topic, are there any options for brakes with this swap for those of us who want to stick with 14" wheels? I know for a fact that 14's won't fit over S13 brakes.

damn that sucks. are the CA18 brakes different to the SR20 brakes i wonder? i could ask my mate and he could prob give me some answers on possible sizes etc. i dont want to have to take off my 14" rims.

my mate has the top of the line Teins that they dont sell over here. were on his HH vr4 when imported from japan. they are super stiff and handle extremely well. no body flex or anything. and plenty of adjustment room. i had a set of Teins in my legnum but they were the base level and they were nothing special. they were just as described above. so maybe it depends how much ya wana fork out on them. my mates are worth like $3000+ a set i think.

*E39A, HH is an Aus-market thing :P
CA brakes are smaller, so you might be able to get 14's over them. Dunno, only S13 I've ever played with was powered by Nissan's most popular hand grenade from factory.
Only one way to find out :P

my mate seems reasonably sure that atleast one of the s13 brakes should fit 14". assuming its the CA for the smaller size engine. i will give this s13 idea a try in the galant in a month or so and see what i can come up with. bit tricky without heaps of spares of s13, sigma, or galant parts to try and assemble it. mate also reckons the s14/r33 LCA's are longer and direct bolt on to s13 to allow extra camber. duno if they match up with a galant or not. im going to take the assumption they dont :(

Be sure to let us know how you go, I for one would be interested if my current idea doesn't pan out as S13 coilovers etc are cheap and plentiful :)

he agrees that if any are smaller it will be the CA ones. and he says the CA N/A and CA-T brakes are the same. his 180sx has upgraded to 32 brakes which are larger otherwise would just take my rim to his SR20 brakes :banh: im excited but have low hopes of actually achieving something other than being able to tell you which parts dont work :) still keen to try though

I've had confirmation that 14's will fit over CA brakes, depending on the rim's caliper clearance. So if your Hotwires clear you're set :)

yeah, CA or NA S13 brakes should fit under 14's

ive got the 4Piston SRTurbo brakes so im looking at 16 or 17 inch minimum.

i thought 15s should clear the SR brakes fine.

so idea is to try fit the s13 strut into the galant. if they dont fit which im sure they wont i will see what parts are causing the issue ad try work out a way around it. then if can actually get the strut mounted up i will try source some CA brakes which my mate should be able to get ok. im assuming that im only running sigma struts and the rest is all standard galant but whoknows what the old owners did on my car.

There is no way a S13 front strut is going to 'bolt in' to a Galant. The strut itself is completely different so you will need the S13 steering knuckle to bolt the strut to but that is fitted to the car via single nut ball joint not the 3 bolt plate like the GC. I think if you got a S13 lower control arm it might work but would have some pretty mean positive camber.

cheers for the advice jason. yeh i didnt like my chances of having stuff miraculously bolt up. i could try steal my mates LCA off his 180 if they are the same as s13 which im assuming they are as same chassis? then can have a go.

15's definitely clear SR-DET brakes, standard wheels for an SR S13 are 15x6.5 +30ish
