Pepperpot repair

Post by hengagc75 »

Just picked up a set of pepperpots and one wheel has two lug holes that have been worn out/threaded. Has anyone had this problem? The guy I bought it off said he had been told welding it up around where the wheel nut taper would sit and use a die grinder to grind it down to the right shape would work. Any ideas?

If you look closely you can see the top left and the bottom right are bigger than the other two holes.

Maybe (MAYBE...) get some thick alu stock and have it welded in, then re-mill the stud holes. It would take some serious precision but I think this is in the too hard basket...

I'm pretty sure buying another wheel would be cheaper.
There's a fair bit of time welding and machining in that.

There is nothing wrong with your rims..the metal bevel edged inserts that the lug nuts contact have fallen out. They are just a press in interference fit..they look dodgy..and now it appears they can also fall out. :\

The mounting face in the back of that rim is really beat up too. I would be looking for a decent replacement rim, seriously.

your not wrong..it looks like at some time it must have been REALLY loose and hammered itself. Probably explains the missing insets as well.
