Tyres on Scorp .Rims.

Post by davenq »

Just took some photos for clearance questions I have had on the Lancer.
Now scorp rims are 14 x 5 1/2.
I scored a set that had 245 60's for the rear
These pics show standard height, bolted straight on to rear of the Lancer. the rims are probably too skinny for this width tyre (bagging of sidewall)

Hope this helps the enquiries I've had

Thanks very much Dave,

Just as I thought - the inner guard will be the limiting factor !
Do you know the offset of the wheels ?

It says 5 1/2 - JJ x 14 24 on the rim so guessing +24 ?
Oter to outer is 170 ..half that is 85. 85 +24 = 109 which is the measurement from inside lip to mounting surface.
Am not sure but I have a set of black powder coated misti rims that say 6-JJ x 14 18 so guessing these are +18

Hi Dave,

So judging by the pics and this info, the aprox optimum offset would be moved 10mm to the outside.

This would mean a +14 offset wheel.

Does that sould correct ?

Depending on Rim width ..

.5 1/2 is approx 138 mm (inside) but 170 outer lip to outer lip.(on these anyway)
So an 8 would be 200 internal (guessing 230 lip to lip) if you went zero on an 8 that would make it 115/115 (lip to lip) -10 on an 8 gives you 105/125.
Fronts would be a different story.
This is how I understand it ,..anyone else jump in and correct me if I'm wrong

If you went 10s (255 inner ,)..say 285 outer to outer,..you would need say -35 giving you 107/178.....lol

I just edited this cos I stuffed it up...

Thanks Dave,

Offset is offset - no matter what the width :)

Just remembered I'm using a Scorpion disc brake rear end which is close to 12mm wider each side ...

So I think zero offset is going to be very close for the rears (14 - 12 = 2)

Fronts I will start with the +20 offset wheel option that I have available for the wheels I plan to use (link below)

Only problem with so little wheel arch clearance on the front is the tyre ripping the guard lip down when you hit a bump with a bit of lock on. Bending the guard lip up helps to a certain degree. This is a bit hard on a Sigma, because the inner guard is also metal.

Nice wheels ...
Yeh I reckon 0 on the back with your wider diff will be almost spot on ...
Not sure on your +20 for the front though???

My choices are 0 and +20 offset !
Probably 16 x 9" rear and 16 x 8" fronts

I will have some test tyres fitted up to the car and play with the offsets before I order them some time in the new year

thanks for your help Dave (H)
