Hi all my gj siggy runs drums on the rear I want to change to discs , do I need to change the whole diff/rear axle or just remove the drums and replace with disc brake , the disc brakes are on a gj rear axle thanks regards Chris

not too sure to be honest....but im guessing it'll be quicker/easier to just buy a disc brake rear end and bolt it up

from memory...the brake master cylinders are the same....but cant remember exactly

Think you would also need to weld on the mounts to bolt the caliper too?
I would just be looking for a complete disc brake diff if I were you. Upgrade to a 10 bolt if you only have an 8. Should only cost you $100 and maybe 2 hours of your time.

It will be far easier to go down the path off a full diff swap, it will save you time and money that you would've ended up spending on panadol. You will need to factor in having a functioning hand brake and taking the matching hand brake cables with the deal.

You can do it! but changing the diff is easier.
I've done it, But.
You have to use the alloy brackets and grind them out to fit and also fit spacers for the axels.
I had to cause I'm in Cairns and we have no wreckers to speak of.

i think there's also mixed opinion regarding whether a brake master cylinder from a 4 wheel disc brake sigma is also needed. The brake balance is different theoretically.
i have a disc rear axle still to fit to my GE wagon but i'm still slightly concerned that hitting the anchors while cornering would be a recipe for leaving the road.

I'm pretty sure (in the later model at least) the sigmas only ran the same master cylinder regardless if drums or discs

I can have a look at the old PBR catalogues i have and check if you want.
