need help with gearbox out of a gj sigma it to a ge

i got the gj with a 2.6l and a jap 5 speed looks the same as the one that come out my ge sigma so i put the motor in the ge today and the gearbox is siting about 8cm further back is that right. if i leave it in the car i will have to cut the piece out in the ge the gear box that come out of the gj all so does not need to be pushed down to find reverse

The Jap gearboxes come in different lengths. The GE ones were shorter than the GJ/K models. You need to look at the strips on the tailshaft to suit, they have dozens of different ones for sedan, wagon, Borgwarner, Jap etc.

pics to see what you have to work with! sounds like it may? be a wide block motor and box hence what I call a step-back gear stick ?????????
