Post by sigtool »

i have a gj scorpion with a sad old auto which i believe is the baby 904
i have a borgwarner Auto rehashed with falcon clutch packs sitting on the shop floor
can they be swapped?
i have to change flexplate but otherwise will the yoke fit?
any ratio changes ect
would the borg throw my speedo out?

Hey man.
I don't know for sure but would hazard a guess that the output shaft spline count would be different too.
Do you know if the trans mounts are the same?
What about the length of each trans?

cheers

According to my workshop manual, here's the difference:

Torqueflite MA904A:

1st=2.45
2nd=1.45
3rd=1.00

Stall=2200-2650rpm

Borg Warner 35:

1st=2.39
2nd=1.45
3rd=1.00

Stall=2500-2600rpm

wont throw ur speedo out (assuming ur not changing diff ratios and wheels/tyres)

Yes you can put in a late 80's/early 90's Falcon valve body in the BW(as a bolt-in mod) for a more aggressive shift pattern (acn only be a 3-speed auto from the Falcon)

I swapped a BW for a T904 and it did throw my speedo out a fair bit (about 10% but I never had it accurately tested or checked against a GPS so this is a guesstimation only - and this was in a GD wagon with the original auto diff)
