Toyota AE86 LSD

Post by A112H »

Last weekend GB_BB4C and I spotted a TRD LSD from a AE86 Corolla/Levin and besides these are the right stud pattern for us they also look like they are the right width, the Jap importer only wanted $1400 for it.
We also noticed these are a 10 bolt and look identical to Scorpion/EX Lancer 10 bolts.
Has anyone had any experience with these centres?
Anyone know if they will fit into our housings?

One question,

When you say the right width.....what are you comparing it to?
Galant?,Lance/Sigma?Scorpion?

Did this AE86 diff have drums or discs?

Do you know what ratio?

Sorry, that was about 9 questions i know....but am curious

Not sure if they came with drums, but I know for sure that they do come with discs.

Shoot this guy a question, and get him to measure from hub face to hub face.

I've seen these a lot cheaper, but this is all that's on ebay atm.

I'm pretty sure there are different ratios available? The good thing about the 86 diffs, is so many people use them (for drifting/racing etc..) that it's worth the effort for suppliers to make things for them, because they have a market to sell to.

I have seen 1 ways, 1.5ways and 2 ways advertised for them on ebay before.

This particular diff was discs, but like Dave said I think drum were available but discs only for LS optioned diffs.
Width looks pretty close to Sigma, maybe slightly narrower so would suit Sigma and Galant.
Cusco, TRD, KAAS and I am sure others all do kits for these diffs, you could get any ratio you wanted.

hmmmmmmm, so in theory, is it possible that you could get an open diff from an Aus model Corolla or Corona and put in an LSD centre into them????

I don't know for sure, but I'd say this site may just be able to answer that question.

The diff in question is a T series, so T18, RA40 or JDM AE86. Two different sizes, for early AE86/T18/RA40 and late AE86. RA40/T18 have drum brakes.
The only real advantage they'd have is the ready availability of different ratios and LSD centres, they're about as strong as a Scorpion diff.

No. Aus Corollas/Coronas have Borg-Warner diffs. Pretty sure it's the same diff as a Sigma actually. AUDM AE86's have an S-series, which is just as shit.

Are the centres interchangeable with Scorpion 10 bolts?

I highly doubt it, but you never know.
Know anyone with a shitty old RA40 Celica just sitting about? lol

If this is correct one would assume the 10 bolts were the same diff too. I am pretty sure there are a couple of RA40's at Up Pull It north, I will check them out next weekend.

Wouldn't count on it. The 10-bolt and T-series were made by Mitsubishi and Toyota respectively, not sourced from a third party company like the Sigma/Corona/Corolla BW70.

Edit: But like I said before, you never know :)
