Mitsubishi Triton diffs

Hey folks can anyone help me,

'89 Mitsubishi triton with carb 4G54 rwd (or indeed the year models around that era)
Do they use a Sigma/Scorp/L300 diff?
Or are they using a rear diff the same as the 4wd?

Might the 4wd LSD bolt straight into a 2wd rear diff housing?
Taking into consideration housing bolt pattern, axle diameter, spline numbers etc...

housing width?

Would I be correct in assuming these are a Wide block being that late?

Just brought down from QLD, my newly acquired dual cab Triton, which runs the 4G54 engine.

I believe it is the same as the Scorp diff, I can confirm tomorrow. I'll be changing the center if it is, because the current diff ratio is around 4.9:1.

Flat out, 3rd gear in the Triton, and I'm doing about 65kph.
In the Sigma Wagon, flat out in 2nd gear and I'm doing 110kph.

Dan, it was a bit wet down here today so I wasn't able to check.
If it fines up tomorrow, I'll get it done.

BTW, my triton is a MJ (1994) model.

its the same as a pajero or l300 4x4 diff. its bigger than the scorp / 2wd l300. wont fit

Anything too big like a 9inch is a complete waste in our cars. I know the idea back in the day was EVERYTHING needed a 9" but these days if you have enough power to need one traction will be your issue. You just wont get the tyres under any of our cars to get the sort of traction that warrants a 9" IMHO

a 9" in a car our size is poinless.....i had one in my wagon and it was a rediculous and pointless piece of garbage that i wasted my time and money on (mind you, it was in a stock 2.6L)

But couldn't you convert the V6 Triton (with the lsd in it already) over just like you would with a 9" or a bigger BW????

Unless you are running a 400hp+ Asstron all day every day then anything bigger than a XD-EA or VL-VS or R31 disk brake LSD is a waste of time and money.
These diff's can be picked up for $100 at a local wreckers and most diff places will adjust for about $800

Just an update, the 89 Triton 2wd is the same diff as Sigma, but with 4.2:ratio.

I still havent been able to look at a 4wd equivalent to compair the housing bolt pattern etc
Let alone axle lengths, diameter, or spline ratio.



Haha yes I would say that a 9" in a stock 2.6 is an over kill
I would have to agree Borg warner is looking like the cheapest option now days,
Just a quick look on ebay will give you plenty of ratio options,
complete gear sets,
and the occasional second hand LSD centre.

But remember the other costs involved,
Tail shaft mods,
Housing shortened,
Axles shortened and resplined,
Suspension mounting points remade,
If you choose to convert to 4 stud, then redrilling axles, new disks, pads and calipers,
If you choose to keep 5 stud, you may need new disks, pads and calipers anyway....


None are cheap options, but its difficult to find a stock lsd for our cars no matter what you do...? :/

Sorry about the thread mine but will the sigma centre also fit into a 96 MJ triton?

Also were there other ratio's in the sigma's?
