Borg Warner Diff's

Post by A112H »

Okay, so I have my shortened Centura Housing and 25 spline axles but no guts at all so here are the questions.
1. Are all BW diff centres the interchangable? Forgetting spline amount for the moment.
2. Can I use the guts out of a 25 spline XF or VL LSD??
3. What do I need if I was to buy the parts myself? Cones, gear set, centre and so on.

I got this diff because it had been shortened and had the pcd changed to 4x114.3 but I am thinking it might have been better to grab a $100 XF LSD and get it shortened and redrilled, lol

Sorry for all the questions guys but as I am getting my engine tomorrow, all I need is to get the diff done and EFi sorted and it will be running :)

Or could I buy a new one like this and get a new set of gears?

if the factory ratio was 2.77 then thats the only ratio/hemisphere that will fit

if it was 2.92 onwards then all gears apart from the 2.77 will fit

if your not using the hemisphere that was matched with that housing then you will need to take it to a diff specialist to get it set up correctly as these use shims to set the gears

you can do it at home but its a right kent without a case spreader

I am all prepped to take it to get built, I just wanna collect the parts first to save a few bucks.
Any way I can tell what ratio it was?
I hope it is the 2.92 or greater as I was hoping to run 3.45's

my brother had to get a custom built center for his centura diff, was a 4 pinion with 3:45 gears, expensive excercise..

See what I am thinking is why would a centre for a VL a XF a R31 all be interchangable but not for a Centura? Then I could run a 3.45 out of a VL not need a custom?
I am happy with 3.23:1 if thats what it has gotta be

If you have a manual that would be great. I am not set on ratio as such but really didn't want a 2 or 4. Anything in the 3's will do :)

Would a limited slip centre from another Valiant be a fit?

See this is why I am confused, well one of the reasons, lol

If this gear set will fit Ford, Hold and Valiant borg warners then why won't the centres that the gear set bolts too? Pretty sure these would also fit a R31 too.
