As the subject heading says; how much play is normal?
I can move left-right approx 4(or 5?) centimetres in-gear. What's everyone else got?
I've just noticed today and can't tell if it's always been that way or if its suddenly gotten worse..
If the guides or whatever are worn -is it easily replaceable?
Jap 5 speed gear lever play: how much is normal?
Re: Jap 5 speed gear lever play: how much is normal?
Yeah.... me too.
I replaced the bush at the bottom of the shaft to little effect.
I hear there's another bit that sits further up the shaft... but yep, mine you could make porridge with whilst in gear.

I would say it's the browny ball on which the lever rotates, which is broken/gone.
ref http://www.sigma-galant.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4567 (here it is a white ball, when the lever is upside down you see it)
To replace it i removed the clip that holds the spring to get more space and then i removed the pin out of the lever (that pin goes through the ball and lever) with a hammer or so (thight fit). Ball over lever and then pin back through, spring and clip on their places, finished.
Only problem: Mitsu doesn't have it and i coudn't find a partnumber anywhere. Also aftermarkt it's very hard to get :s
I got them from an ebay store but i don't know if they still have some. I let you know as soon as i got an answer on the mail i've send.

That's the bit I replaced... no effect on slop in gear selector whilst in gear.

do you mean now the white bushing at the ball-end of the lever, the one that goes in the hole in the fork shafts? (item 18 on the pic)camB wrote:That's the bit I replaced... no effect on slop in gear selector whilst in gear.
I'm referring to the one that sits higher on the lever... (brown nylon part on the pic)

Ah, no. I replaced the bush on the bottom. I'd like one of those too then if it'll take out the slop.

I got these: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Gearbox-Shifter- ... 2a0e3b75dc
They fit without a problem on the lever of the KM132 5-speed.
Doesn't matter if you take Pajero, L200 or Lancer ones, the dimensions are all the same.
And must say, the service of those guys is great!
Cheers
