The standard flexplate needs to be reinforced even without a transbrake I can arrange for them to be done on an exchange bases using a laser cut plate.

So far its been good (apart from mincing the ring gear) Its full manual and shifts really smooth. The stall (about 2800rpm) is spot on for drivability. Even with a T04Z it stalls no problem which is why i mention earlier that theres no need for a trans brake.

At scutineering it weighed 1109kg so it is no feather weight yet we have a few things to get rid off and replace the heavy recaro's with some velo buckets should be able to drop 150kg out of it as it is in full street trim heater and everything.

what's the difference between the 3 speed auto from a sigma and that from a Scorpion?
Also what kw/nm would a Sigma auto be able to handle?
I'm starting to think about keeping the auto in my GH after all lol
looking to start an mechanical apprenticeship, if you know of anyone in Melbourne or Gippsland who's looking for a first year, let me know!

The Sigmas have a Borg Warner autos and the Scorpions have (baby) Torqueflite 904.
I had a BW built with firmer shifts by Kewish Autos (Dandenong VIC), locked diff and about 100kwatw. I was very reliable. Use a good tranny cooler.
The 904's have more options to build it strong, shift kits, manual valve body and I've even heard trans brake.

ok, cool thanks for that... I'm so so so tempted to stick with the auto for my GH and keep it a street car, but I can pick up a 2.6L and b/w 5 speed for next to nothing, so bang for buck it's probably more appealing.. hmmmmm :|

Yep, smart way to go. Keep your eyes open for a motor/gearbox combo. Its a lot easier than stuffing around trying to match up wide blocks & narrow blocks.
I'm here for a good time, not a long time !

Save your money. Keep it auto and you won't be breaking diffs. And if you get a BW 5 speed, get used to changing gears with your finger inside the gearbox. The shifters love poping out of those boxes.

Converter bolts coming loose is normally from poor alignment and not using loctite. If anyone is interested my 904 will be up for sale very soon as I am going witha trans braked c4.

The locator for the converter that go's into the crank may be to loose, could have the wrong sized bolts on the flexplate, adaptor not drilled 100%, converter runout the list go's on. It is a pain in the arse to figure out good luck.

how's the baby 904 going?

Also what would i need to do to a standard GE b/w 3 spd to get it to shift quicker/crisper, and/or how much would it likely cost to get it manualised?

what would be a good stall speed for a fairly standard 2.6, or maybe EFId?

I haven't built the auto yet.
As for the BW. Any transmission joint can build you an auto with harder shifts. I'm not sure if you can actually manualise the BW35.
