you need to know your diff ratio, how many bolts is has, front or rear center (jap or BW) and then find another sigma with the same ratio, botl pattern and model as urs. there are so many variations

not fussed about ratios...

so how do you tell b/w from jap diffs? is there much differences or among jap diffs or among b/w diffs or are the differences only between jap and b/w?

centres aside... can i get the housing out of any GE, GH or GJ onwards wagon and bolt it in?

any helpfull hints to point me in the right direction?

cheers,
rob

There are basically 3 types of Jap diff that will fit the GE/GH Sigmas.
2 are Jap , 1 is BW.
If the spring mounts are on the diff, it won't fit a GE, GH or Wagon.

The 2 types of Jap diff that will fit are from the GE and GH Scorpions.
The GH diff is preferable because the axles are thicker.
If you "WERE" using a BW diff and going to a JAP diff, you will need the diff, hand brake cable and all the control arms from the Scorp diff to be able to fit it.
Also, the tailshaft flange "MAY" be different.

They have the same mounting points and will bolt straight in.
If the spring mount IS NOT on the diff, it WILL fit a GE or GH.
I don't know whether the axles or centers are the same but I would guess they are.

I believe the GE Scorpion Jap diff centers are probably leftovers from the pre '78 lancers and galants but I would guess they realized they weren't strong enough when pushing a vehicle with a 2.6L astron, especially if it weighs an extra 300kg when compared with the lancers.

Cheers.
