Plastic bit on end of gear stick

Post by DanTurboLancer »

Hey folks, been chasing up the plastic piece on the bottom ball of our gearsticks.

I havent been able to locate a one new for sale.

Does anyone know where to buy them from if they are still able to be brought new?

And im pretty sure they are all the same,
But just to check,
Sigma, Galant, lancer, Starion all same??

There was a post on the old site somewhere, with the part No:

The bush is the same as the later model Tritons', Pajero's and L200s', that use the astron engine and either KM132/KM145-8-TF/ KM145-9-FS/ KM145-9-G/ KM145-9-GL/KM145-B-G/KM145-B-GS/KM145-B-GWL gearbox's as well.

Years ago (and getting close to 20-yrs) I made one out of nylon, and it lasted a lot better than the plastic one that originally was there.
Mind you, I was a lot heavier on the gear changes back then. 1 gear box, 1 fragged clutch and 2 diffs later, I had learn't my lesson.

Cheers.

Dan, I bought some two years ago, and when I bought they told me it came from a later model lancer as well. I am not sure which one but mitsu does have them, need to find someone who will actually help you not just fob you off.

Cheers

Wrong one.

It's a cylinder shape with a hole in the centre that clips over the ball on the bottom of the gear lever.

That one is for the borg-warner box i believe,

I've always got them from Mitsubishi with no problems. Last time the guy looked it up in a scorpion microfiche and knew the price, etc as soon as he saw the part number. They are used in a lot of RWD and 4WD mitsus.

I made my own.
I made it out of a soft greasy type plastic that I have here. It seems to have held up well in the wagon for 30000kms +.

If you need one can it wait till I get further through setting up my shed. I'm just waiting on doors before I put my lathe in there.

Dave...

Yes, I need one too! That's the culprit for the shifter "rattle" under load, yes?
When I changed the box oil I was fishing little bits of plastic out - I assumed there was something supposed to be on the end which had disintegrated years ago.
I'm sorely tempted to try the garden hose idea. :wut:

Seeing as we are talking gear selector parts can you still get the bakalight ball bush that is in the shifter sleeve thing... Basically turn the shifter upsidedown and you will see a reddy brown plastic ball. That is what I am looking for......

At North Parramatta there is a Repco and Super Cheap side by side. It's amazing that Repco does any business because Super Cheap usually stock exactly the same products, and are significantly cheaper.

It is a real PITA to change that thing. You have to dis-assemble the actual gearstick to be able to change it.
I had one completely frag and go into the gearbox. Not Good.

I like the way 101propose (ie:MOOKEEH) short shifters are designed. Ball and socket with 2 tabs and 2 springs.
Simple to build and works well.
Nothing to go brittle and fall into the gearbox either.

Hey Folks, just to follow up on this.

Went down to my local Mitsubishi Dealership today.

After some blank looks and head shaking, i Quoted the Part Number LEEN provided,
and it came straight up on his computer,
he walked out and 2 minutes later came back with the right part.
Cheers LEEN

And the price GB_BB4C was pretty spot on (may differ slighty between branches)

Perhaps giving REPCO or other parts suppliers with that Part number may have produced something.
But as one mob said, they didnt stock them, so it would cost more for the shipment than the actual part...

But just wanted to give some positive feed back, and thanks to all.

Part number MD 701577
$7.30 each

That bakalight ball ("fulcrum ball") used to be available separately for RA to RD Colts, but not for a RWD gearlever application. I may have the original part number somewhere, but I dont think it is available now.

About 25 years ago I had several made from an "indestructible material" by an aircraft engineer/fabricator, who initially made a jig for it. I think the gearbox in Nath76LA's Lancer has one of these balls in it.......been there a long time.

Unfortunately the business dissapeared a few years ago, along with the jig, although I still have a length of material left...somewhere.
