Scorpion locked diff in a Galant?

Post by GC75 »

just wondering if this is possible?

i hope so as the disc brakes on the rear would be ideal somewhat.

Short answer is yes.

It's possible but not just a bolt in job. I have the diff from one of the old forum members who did this conversion a while back. I think though the angle on the shock changes a fair bit to be more vertical and i hardly actually drove with this diff in so i'm not completely sure if it ever came in contact with the body under heavy cornering. It may have but he had such hard springs in that car the suspension hardly moved at all.

I also spoke to a guy up here in brisbane who has a lancer he rallies and used a scorp diff but approached it a bit differently. The problem you have with the scorp diff is that the calipers foul where the shock would normally mount to. He avoided this problem by cutting out the middle of the diff and rewelding the left side to the right and the right side to the left so you didn't have to mess with hand brake cable mounting. Also the calipers were now located on the back of the diff and no longer fouled with the shock mounting. Think you might need some longer U-bolts though.

I think with going to all that effort it you'd go to with this option it would be better to go the extra step and get a full LSD setup put in. The only real additional cost being shortening axles and redrilling stud patterns i don't see why not.

Ive got a locked scorp diff.

Just need to cut off original mounts an weld spring pads on, cheater made me a screw on adapter to push the shock past the calliper mount.

Tailshaft bolts up as does brake line, i havnt bothered to fit up the handbrake cable(there a twin cable setup much one for each side).

Would love a picture if you have the time karl?

Also with the handbrake cables, use an earlier scorp one (think mines from a GH scorp) goes on with some muck around - refer my old thread.

Yes shockers are a pain in the rear, im currently using '66 VW ones - nice and short so i could change the lower mount around a bit, still not happy though. (so would love a pic :) )

been meaning to weld my centre up for a while... so sick of single spiners  there gay.

Hey i just saw this.

the adaptor is made from solid steel rod, has a hole in one end with a thread to screw onto the car, then is turned down on the lathe at the other end and has a thread so you slide the shock onto the end...is maybe 60-80mm long just enough to clear the calliper.

I dont run a handbrake, I'l sort it one day though, probably.
