Gearbox mount problems

Post by Taz »

I've recently put in a new gearbox mount in my lc lancer. Running a 4g32 standard box etc. I'vedone a mmanual conversion but had the gearbox crossmember modified to sit the box exactly where it should. Still using factory ctossmember and chassis bolt locations. I just welded some metal plates to the end of the cross member and drilled some holes to bolt up. No problems droving, just the Mount
I noticed a driveshafts noise driving today and had a peek under. Mount has collapsed and box I would imagine it put of alignment for the shaft and that's what's making the noise as the shaft doesn't like rotating on the angle it's on.
Anyway, being the Mount is only a few months old I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else, or a common problem etc. I don't want to put another mount in for it to do the same thing every few months. How likely is it the Mount itself is just too cheap and nasty or could something else be at play here making this happen? Any potential solutions? Thoughts?
Cheers

So you are saying the mount itself has delaminated?

If so, it's more common when they are old, I've never had the problem with a new one.

It's 2 rubber blocks sandwiched between 3 metal plates. My blue slip guy sourced one and fitted it brand new. The rubber has split away from the metal and has collapsed the box down about 30mm or so misaligning the tailshaft. Not sure if maybe just a case of a bad product or something more sinister at play.

Update:

After pulling it out and having a look it looks like there was too much pressure on the gearbox and so it eventually won the fight and collapsed the rubber. I've ordered another one from Sydney for 60 bucka express post so hopefully that will be here by Friday.
I've made some spacers to put between the chassis and cross member to sit the box where it should be sitting so it doesn't happen again touch wood. Seems there was an underlying problem from the manual conversion after all
