Gearbox Solution Needed

Post by Paul4carz »

I got my a72 lancer from Japan and want to do a engine conversion,
4g63 from evo or vr4 etc!
I need a narrow gearbox to fit my car and problem is sigma transmissions cant be got over here and old l200's or starions cant be either.
So i need a narrow block tranny of a car that is available in my country.
Any help appreciated about adapter plates etc
4G63T engines can be got over here

Anyone used the w series bell housing from bill with a toyota gearbox?
Where does the gearstick end up, need to modify tunnel?

I don't have one of bills housing but I do run dellow housing behind a 4g63 to a W58 in a LB sedan

The tunnel is too narrow and not tall enough as it is for a w58, it has to be bashed out a bit to fit and achieve a decent level on the trans. Look at your tunnel it will appear to be corrugated/ribbed in profile the low points need to come up to the high points. There are variations in the W series box for shifter position, I recommend that your motor sitting in place with the bellhousing (or ask bill for the length) and measure up where the different shifter positions ends up, refer to this article it has measurements http://users.tpg.com.au/users/loats/tec ... boxes.html

A bonus of going with Bills housing is that he seems to cater for different flywheels and starters. If you are going to increase the output of the motor to and above 200rwkw and you want to stay single plate clutch consider going for the larger vr4 flywheel and clutch as the smaller sigma flywheel will struggle with lots of abuse.
