At what km' would you rebuild?

Post by Rally_2.6LC »

Hey guys just after some advice. After how many km would you rebuild your engine?
Would it matter if it was a turbo or not (specifically 4g63t if anyone knows).
How many km does your engine have on it? Would you replace turbo first?

I do realise it depends on the engines life and how hard its been treated, but if its unknown???

In my experience pre 95 cars used to start suffering around 120,000miles a little higher for later models due to the quality of oils at there respective ages. 6bolt or early 7bolt 4g63t usually showing wear anywhere between 80-120,000miles. Checking for end float, oil pressure, deposits in rocker cover and compression are all good indicators of an engines condition. As far as knowing whether its been loved or abused which can make a big difference.

In my experience Astrons only last about 80,000km before they start using oil, can't say for 4G63's.

inside your rocker cover will tell you a lot about your engines life
the if you clean it down if it easy to clean chances is are well maintained
alot of thick crud or tarnished and stained likely a hard life not many oil changes ect
not to mention a quick compression test
and inspection of your spark plugs will explain alot on how its holding up

my triton 4g54 did 465000km on its factory everything only gave out due to my stupidity. :hit:

I took my 1500 GA Galant off the road at 500,000 miles because it was smoking too much.
