weber trouble
weber trouble
hey lads. fitted my weber last night. woke up this morning and set the tuning and timing on it. Car ran perfect!! nice at idle, good solid acceleration all the way thru and overall just nice and smooth. I was loving it lol. Took it for a burn up the highway after everything was finished and put all my tools away lol, and everything was going sweet. was just cruising along sitting around the 3 grand mark, and then about after 10 mins of driving it started to run a bit rough. It felt almost fine anywhere over 2 and a half grand, but still not as nice as at first, and wen i came off the highway the car did not want to idle at all and the motor would just die if I let it drop to the 1 grand mark. Wen i got home i went and checked for anything loose,l all my hose fittings, and basically everything that i did and didnt touch wen i installed it. Didnt find anything wrong. Checked for any fuel blockages, timing and tuning but still nothing wrong. It seems to me like its an air leak problem only because once its reving around the 2 and a half grand it almost runs perfect but not quite. temp stays fine and yer it just doesnt sound like anything major because of how it runs up top. but down low its like a dogs breakfast. Am going to email the guy i bought it off (brand new) and see wat he thinks as i dont want to touch any internals of the carb at all for warranty purposes. Anyways just thought that maybe someone on here has had the same thing happen and may have an idea on something i can check or just know wats possibly going wrong. Thanx again for the help

Re: weber trouble
If it was brand new, has it been tuned to your engine???
On the top of the weber there is a choke lever (normally attach a cable to it for cold start) have u attached anything to this?? if not dont worry.
The other problem it might be is that you havent done the nuts up tight enough holding the weber to the manifold (on the soft mount kit). These 4 nuts have to be tight, but not too tight.
If this is the problem when the car doesnt want to run try pushing the weber towards the manifold/engine, if there is an air leak problem here then doing this will eliminate it.
Cheers Matt

Re: weber trouble
Hey fellas. Thanx for the imput. I did check all those little simple things wen it first played up and got no joy lol. It was doing my head in so I decided to sleep on it and try again. The next day I had a theory and it turned out it was the problem on the stock manifold there is a water outlet which I think is used to help cool the stock carby. Anyways I thought that with the gasket on and then the flat surface of the adaptor plate pushing down on the hole that this would be enough to block it off. I thought wrong lol. The water just soaked thru the gasket and was then being sucked into the manifold. I tried just a quick fix to plug the hole last night but it only made it the 15min drive to work before the same thing started to happen. So my next issue is trying to block the whole well and permanently. Does anyone know of a product to fill a hole that sets like something metal or something solid like that and will bond with the metal the stock manifold is made of?? Cheers again. Will also post some pics up to show u all wen I get tue chance

Re: weber trouble
the manifold is aluminium, get a tap, grub screw and some thread seal tape or take it to a TIG welded
BUILT NOT BROUGHT BY ALGIE.
Re: weber trouble
Do you have a weber on your stock manifold, using an adapter plate?
Like the ones gettin around eBay?

Re: weber trouble
yer thats it. just has u adaptor plate then bolts straight on. And i like the idea of tapping it out then putting a grub screw in
Re: weber trouble
Have you thought on making a spacer with the water holes filled in?
A plate of Aluminium would do it just mark it out, drill and file away, then get some gasket material and put one each side.
Cheap easy fix (and reversible if you ever need it to be).
You'd be unlucky if the piece of aluminium cost more then $5

If you want any sigma-galant.com stickers, then look here for how to get them sigma-galant.com stickers
Re: weber trouble
Or try a paste from Permatex called Liquid-Metal (or something like that). Supercheap sells it, it's cheap and worked great on mine. Fixes leaking cracked intake manifolds too.
