What engine swap for GC/GD Galant?

Post by 2DRGAL »

So engine conversion for GC/GD Galant. What would be the most suitable?

Needs to be able to be registered so i guess there would be capacity limits. I'm in Victoria.

Will end up being turbo but can convert N/A engine if required. Will end up being fuel injected again can convert if required. Will end up being a manual, again if custom bell housing is required so be it. Don't care to much about custom things like engine mounts, exhaust etc If it needs doing it will get done.

So far on my list are.

4G54 + Magna EFI manifold, turbo, aftermarket ecu
4G63 would be an na motor and converted to turbo due to cost and ease of finding one.

Is there are other common conversions for these things?

What would you choose?

Thanks

4G63 SOHC from an L300 is my 1st choice

You could look at a 4g62 out of an l300 or a 4g67 out of a galant ( dohc 1836cc ?? ), they should be within the capacity limits for rego without getting it engineered. In nsw I think you can go 20 percent bigger
Then latter you could use cordia turbo gear or multi point manifold of a 4g64 l300 and stario turbo for the 62
For the 67 I think if you use an evo7 or similar turbo and manifold it will bolt on ( just on the opposite side of
the motor )

I forgot to say you may have some issues with emission control on the 4g67 being a later motor

Would really like something a bit more modern so DOHC is pretty much a given, (that is the main reason I am staying away from the 4G54 at the moment as it is only SOHC) also this will be a performance based build so i'd say it would need a turbo as well.

Has anyone attempted a engine out of a different make into a galant, such as ford, nissan, toyota etc?

I think a handful of scorpions have run an SR20

Personally I'd stick with the '63 for simplicity reasons

U can look at basically anything if u drop enough money in them
Ford Focus "Duratec" engines end up in a number of escorts

U can look at various Hyundai/late model Kia engines as they are a derivative of Mitsubishi

I have fitted a Nissan FJ20 turbo previously, intercooler fits in behind the grill quite easily if you wish to hide it and I tapped a couple of welch plugs for hose fittings to remote mount brake master cylinder reservoirs. easy fit in a weekend
