Another astron build

Post by stealth »

A mate of mine with a la lancer that has a 2.6 out of a gk gsr
Its a stock engine and was fitted over ten years ago ,has finally given up the ghost !
He took it to a dyno day and on the third run it appears to have blown a head gasket
And only made 82 hp at the treads
So I get the job to rebuild it as it was my idea to see what it had
I removed the head ,to find massive amounts of corrosion around the water jackets (nothing unusual for its age)
As I would like to build something healthy on his buget I thought I will do all the research on what the start point is
I cc'ed the astron 1 cylinder head
No 1 55.2 cc
No 2 56 cc
No 3 55.7 cc
No 4 55.3 cc
Head gasket 8.4 cc
Dished piston 16cc and .050 " thou under the deck
So 7.22 to 1 wtf ?
Shouldn't be too difficult to piece together something to beat that
Anyone else come across a super low comp astron before ?
The plan for now is flat tops with zero deck and a astron 2 head and bring the comp up to 10 or 11 to 1 depending on how small I can make the comp cambers

Thanks for the offer
But problem is that a magna is only 8.2
Im going to fit flat tops and using a m5 head but factory it measures 74.5 cc so there's going to be a shitload of welding to make the comp cambers small enough to make 11 to 1

Also got a pajero 4g54 wideblock at work as well deemed 'parts' pretty sure it was a cactus carby not the block. Either way if you need parts let me know.

Depends on the Magna. The TS is 9.2:1 to 9.4:1 (from memory) with the M8 M9 kidney shaped heads.

You can shave up to 2mm off these heads safely, zero deck some flat top pistons, and you will be closer to 12:1, just don't forget to space out the hydraulic tensioner to take up the chain slop, or find a 1/2 link..

Cheers.

Has anyone cc'ed a m8 or m9 head ,and are the valves lower in the comp chamber ,as thay use pistons with valve relief
I have a choice of heads but dont have a m8/9 and there not that to get hold of
I don't mind all the welding ,just surprises me that not many know what comp thay have got when mix matching parts
