Astron 2.6L wideblock

Post by livestockpimp »

Hey all,
Firstly "Hi All!" as I am new to these forums.
I have a 77 galant with a 1600 manual in it.
I have recieved a free 2.6L astron from a triton i think that has been rebuilt and have decided it might be fun to do the conversion. I also have gotten a 2L gearbox from an L200 Ute.

My problem is from some reading I have discovered a few things:
You need a narrowblock due to the gearbox not fitting in the tunnel on the galants.
My engine is a wideblock from what I have read (And i dont have the narrow holes drilled as well like some do!)
the gearbox is a narrowblock.

I was planning on just drilling the block and making the 2L box bolt up as it seems the easiest thing since I already have everything.

Has anyone done this before or are there differences between the engines that would not allow me to do this?

Any advice appreciated.
Thanks!

an old engine i had started life as a wide block, and got redrilled to suit narrow

but who ever did it, didnt drill the top holes very well, there was a 5mm height difference between them
and the dowel holes were really badly modded to suit aswel

so yeah it can be done :D

no I haven't as yet still have enough skinny ones but will do when I run out

my sigma runs both patterns on the 2.6 so there is enough room even to counter bore for the dowel

thanks guys,
will see how i go and will post back in a week or 2 when it is hopefully all fitted.

I should prob start a new post for this one as its not really engine anymore but are there any issues with putting the 2L gearboxes into the galant, i know they bolt up and I have read about people doing it but I have seen a post somewhere also where someone was saying the gearstick was further forward and looked like it would hit the heater.
