The main reason people don't use the 4g93 is because the 4g63 is a better choice of and is relatively easy to get into the sigma and the galants. The 4g93 may be a little cheaper but they are an all round weaker engine when compared to the 4g63. Most of the lancers that came with the 4g93 usually swap to a 4g63 as there is more aftermarket support as well.

I don't know if the 4g93 has the same gearbox bell housing shape as the 4g63 but the 4g63 has much more compatibility options as you can use a 2L sigma box on the standard engine or a starion box if you swap the head to a starion 4g63 block. You would also have to check what engine mounts the 4g93 has but i was under the impression that it won't just bolt into the rwd models easily.

Basically the 4g63 is much less of a headache to install and a better all round engine.

The 93 and 63 are the same bell housing so the box will fit the same as the 63 yeah fair enough on the stronger engine comment but the 93 is still a good engine
im on an evo forum aswell and most boys are making 180 awkw with a 93t and stock internals which isnt a bad power level at all!!! considering a 63t's are only making
200-220 awkw safely.

And also an evo motor bolts directly into a gsr so it should be just as easy to run a 93t or p as it is a 63t

Why not go for the 4G94 then?
That's what's in in my Lancer VRX Wagon. I've always wondered what it would make a Galant go like. It's no drag car, but it's got more then the Saturn.
I thought a 4G93 or 4G94 in a Galant shell would make a good daily driver

Does anyone know if the DOHC heads off the M21 protons 4G93's would fit on the 4G94?

You can get DOHC for the 4G93/94
-There more or less the same engine shy of the storke bore (much like the astron 2lt & 2.6 being similar).
Don't miss take what i'm saying... there are differences, but essentially the same.

Have being playing around with a 4G94 of late, quite an impressive engine actually (maybe that is because I'm used to my 52)

Anyway, it was inevitable that i had a similar thought dave lol.
Can't see any reason why you can't get one to go in there, Custom engine mounts will be a must.

I guess the biggest hurdle to over come is the exhaust & inlet sides are fack to brunt. Still, that shouldn't really be a problem with the amount of room under the gal's.

I've never had a 4g93 so can't really comment on how good they are.
Don't get me wrong I'd be very happy with 180kw at the wheels from my 4g63 or 4g54 (speaking of heavy)
And I'm with you guy's as well that power isn't everyrthing, plenty to be said for balance as well.
4g63 definitely handles better in a starion than 4g54 but I love the torque from the old truck motor out of the corners
just wish it turned in as well as the 4g63.

As a result the 54 is getting put into a GK GSR now to use as a club car and 63 staying in the staz.

haha put it this way i had an n/a 4g93 in my proton for three years and i hit limiter everyday (8000rpm) and it did a hard 170,000k's and then i sold it to a guy
in sydney (now in a satria show car fast fours featured) and he turboed it, it ran faultlessly for 6 months on 15 pound all day until he wanted a forged motor, so i think they kick ass!!! hahaha

Hey guys, thought Id use the search button rather than start a new thread and this answered some questions already, but here's some more anyway.

Does anybody have any other reasons not to use the 93 other than 'the 63 is better' in comparison. Ive recently acquired a new hardtop and I love the economy of the saturn but its needs just that little bit more power ( like to overtake) and im not willing to sacrifice the efficiency by putting a weber and cam in it.

To everyone else, doesn't the little 1.8 efi engine that revs to 8k happily seem like the perfect updated replacement of the Saturn? Whole engines and parts are cheap as anything and available from anywhere. I also found this for a 98 auto lancer.

'Fuel Consumption: City(8L/100km), Hwy(5.6L/100km) 1.8litre'

What are peoples thoughts?

Gearbox.

I've been doing quite a bit of research to find out if I can fit a 4G9X in to a galant. The biggest head ache I've come up against is the drive train. There is nothing you can buy that will bolt in.

Do agree though, would be a perfect NA engine in one of these vehicles.

My guess is that it will bolt up to one of our boxes, it seems fairly common that people swap these out to put the 4g63 in and I doubt they are swapping over boxes. This is only an educated guess though

Its the same bell housing pattern as a 4G63 and just a little bit of info for anyone looking at doing a 4G63T conversion i would look at a 2G DSM 4G63 out of an eclipse as
some dont run a rear mount CAS they run a CAS in behind the timing case.

Hmm, are you referring to the older 4G9x's? As in pre 95?

Arh that's interesting.

I've got a newer model 4G94 here from a CH Lancer (same bell housing as the CE).
They are Very different from the astron bell housings: Will be a bit of work to make it fit under a galant/sigma etc.

Really? Are you going to use it? The early model 93's and 63's are the same bell housing bolt up i had a narrow 5 speed (i sold to Paully with th 77 GD) bolted to it.
Peter with the Pink GB has an early 63 with a narrow 5 speed bolted to it. No mods straight bolt up.

Undecided at this point. I'm wanting to; would make for a fun car once it is all in there.

Still measuring up all the little bits and pieces. Apart from a gearbox, the rest of it doesn't look like too much of an issue.
