4G32 Turbo???

Post by greenlancer »

Hi everybody

I asked a similar question in the Lancer forum a while back, but didn't really get the answers I was after.

Does anyone know much about the 4G32T? It's supposed to be a factory turbo, and came out (apparently) in a 1980 Cordia, 1984 Lancer (125 hp!), 1980 Tredia, 84 Colt, and 87 Mirage. Can anyone tell me if any of these were released in Australia (or only UK or NZ) and, if so, what would be the best bet to look for?

Cheers

What you probably heard was the 4g62 being in those particular vehicles as a standard turbo engine. It's a 1.8L engine which is pretty much the same as the 4g63 SOHC turbo found in the starions except a smaller capacity.

As far as i know the first turbo engines from Mitsubishi were the sigma turbos and then there were the starions then cordia's and all the other variants from them which you mentioned. They were all 4g62 or 4g63 turbos.

And i think the Mirage turbos were also known as a cyborg and came with a 1.6L 4g92 engine. Very similair to the lancers 4g93 but interchangeable with 4g6* engines if desired.

The 4g32 engines as far as i know has never been turbo from the factory. Modified with better carbies and cams etc for the sporty lancers but never turbo.

The first Cyborg mirages and the CB GSR Lancers came with a 4G61T, not the 4G92, That wasn't until the CC GSR's in around '93. I think.

What about the 4g32 that had the turbo mounted into the inlet manifold I have seen 2 of those set-ups getting around.

There was definately a 4G32 turbo engine that was in Japan.
I know because I purchased a few old "Fast Fours & Rotaries" magazines a few years ago
and it was listed in the complete engines for sale section of one of the dealers, suitable
for transplants.
I'd imagine you'd be pretty hard pressed to find one now. :!:

Aha - I knew they existed!! I've also seen many references to them on UK and European web sites. I guess I'll just need to keep my eyes peeled for one here in Perth.

Here are two pix that are supposed to be of 4G32T engines - whatya reckon?

I suppose the 4G32T setup shown in the pic from GB_BB4C might be tricky to fit into an LA Lancer - I wonder if there would be enough room between the engine and the firewall?

That's if I ever find one...

Actually that NZ engine list has two 4G32T's - one's a 1600 and the other a 16v 2-litre! Maybe the second one is a typo?

Dunno about the rest but the engine in the second photo is a 4G62T from a Cordia GSR

there is a tbi 4g32 turbo in the states in the 84 to I think 87 mirage and colt. It was fwd. Uses basically thesame tbi setup as a starion. Has smaller injectors, a tiny 9b turbo or something like that. I have a turbo setup off one.

Here is a partial mockup on a lb lancer. I had touse a 4g37 head, but a fwd head would probably work also as the water ports on the intake are different. Bolts on, and all you have to do is flip the water neck 180 and no clearance issues.
