Lancer stock Pioneer head unit?

Does anyone know any more info about this head unit/centre console? I have only found a couple photos of the setup in the Lancers, and that is about it.

The top part of it looks like the Pioneer Super Tuner KP-500.


The bottom part looks like the stock layout for the clock + am/fm radio in the Lancers.

I've only ever seen that set up in the pre-release hatchback Chrysler displayed at the Perth Motorshow prior to the hatchback's release in Australia. The tape player in the english factory workshop manuals is also different and simpler so I suspect it was a preproduction thing or a only in the up market luxury Japanese only versions.

Hard to tell with the gear shift in the way, but it looks suspiciously like an 8 track player and not a coventional cassette.

It was a cassette; I had a good look at the show car and 8 track were already out of production at that point.

It was almost certainlyt the pioneer unit carrying a Mitsubishi badge though as I recall.

As a single unit, not as a complete setup like this, there is an 8 track version, the Pioneer TP-900. The tape version, the Pioneer KP-500, does look better though.
