Looks like a boxy old heap to me LOL

The cops have been around to look at that Magna because it had been there a couple of days, so i wont be touching it.

Sorry mate just so im clear,
are you saying my inlet manifold Will suit a m4 and m7 head??

So im ok to get a M4 head?

Im thinking ill buy a recoed M4, it will be cheaper than the crack test only to find its cracked and have to replace it anyway...

And maybe get double or just thicker valve springs?

My current cam is apparently a no.2, or stage 2 (not too sure)...
will that be able to be swapped over,
or just use the stock Magna one?

Would it be worth getting larger valves fitted for flow?
or not worth the cost?

Id just rather do it all in one hit rather than get it together and want to pull it apart again later...

Cheers everyone

looking at your pics yes your car has astron2 intake manifold
um is your cam a mecanical or hyd if mecanical then you need to swap over
your rocker gear id use the cam you have in it as you can change them whenever
and it gives you a bass line to work from
bigger valves are good but you got a big hair dryer hanging off the side so
the question is do you really want or need more kw's if not your wasting cash
if so go nuts

well then
mate see if you cant strike a deal with superscan on a set of
titanium vavles that are a 1mm over and smaller stem size(less friction and weight)
then use the bmw stem guides and seals
i can port itand "cc" for you and then get your shop fit fit everything and machine
it up and your right to go
but this will be "not cheap" even at bargin prices valves, porting, machining wont come in
at under $1000 bucks
or you could leave it near std and put in more boost

So you think the stock valve springs and valves would be ok?
and if i had to get it done, common 1mm OS Valves would be ok?

So many desires and not enough dollars to pay for them lol

EDIT - a grand isnt much to get amazing performance from a head, its just abit much atm...
But the car is just sitting there, with 8 months of rego, ill start saving!

a set of uprated valve springs come in at around $74 from Crow so you'd probably be better off getting them rather than using 20 year old stock items. unless you can get new standard ones

ok here is where im upto

Rang a local Head shop (Aptly named 'The Headmen')

They wont do a recoed head because they "cant give warranty because they always crack"
They can supply a Brand new bare head for $580
And then swap my Valves, cam, rockers in for another... About $150ish
I dont know if my current Starion Hi Jet stuff matches, but im saying too expensive anyway...

When i questioned him about being able to get M4 or M7...
He didnt know of such a thing, says they are all exactly the same....

-----------------------------

Next stop the wreckers.

Fully recoed head $495

Again asked him TN M4 and TR M7 available??

Says there is no difference at all, from Magna to Triton to Pajero
Except the cam......
"been in the game for over 20 years" blah blah blah

---------------------------------

So im upto

What do i look for on the head to signify M4, M6, M7 etc??
is it stamped on the head??

Do i just take the lucky dip and take what ever they give me, and then ask for either Pajero, triton or magna Cam (they will supply what ever, so which has best qualities for Turbo?)

OR......

Stealth can you supply head and carry out the work and just send me completed head ready to rock and roll??

Oh and time frame...

its got rego till mid next year, id like it running before then lol

its just cast on the outside of the head above the exhaust port. M1-4? i think roughly have a standard follower cam and hydraulic lifters, m6-m9 have roller cam and hydraulic lifters. remember all astron 2 heads are identified by the rear inlet manifold studs being on a angle, and the "m-# cast on the exhaust side.

Yours is Astron II Dan,Astron I were on the Sigmas.
I am going to run a JDM Starion head (identical to yours) on my Lancer for a while and see how it goes (with special adapter plate for TP inlet). It has letter box rear water port.

Astron II heads were on Triton ,Pajero and latest Sigma(GN for unleaded engines)...and all Magnas.Scorpions were Astron II as well (import). Most II's had larger water port at the rear, but pajeros, the JDM Starion and GN's didnt.

I am almost 100% sure you have aTP/N Magna inlet on yours,so IF its the ORIGINAL head its a bit unclear how they adapted it to seal the rear water out.

Cheers
