Power Steering

Hi all,

Does anyone know if Sigma Power Steering (recirculating ball type) .. not rack & pinion... will fit Lancer LB/LC hatch's ?

And the second part to the question is - if it will fit, does anyone have one that they are willing to sell ?
Only looking for the steering box - not any of the pump, lines or belts.

Just thinking ahead that I might need power steering with the bigish tyres that I will be fitting !

Short answer is probably not. I have yet to actually try and fit one, but I'd say it would be a tight squeeze. Where the steering box and steering column join would be very close to the firewall. If that clears ok, you would need to shorten the steering column as well. If it wont fit, I have read somewhere that a Lancer EX power steering box would fit.

I reckon Lancers have awesome steering..why would you need power steering on a little lc lancer,big wheels or not.come on man../

^ +1 on that. With the front end fresh and tight they give good feedback and have predictable road manners. I ran 15 x 7's with low profiles and +40 offset (bump steering was 'entertaining' at times but overall it handled like a go-kart. I have driven a new car with 'electric assist' power steering (!@#$ing Hyundai Tuscon...)and is was jittery as all get out at 100 kph - don't know if it is just a characteristic of this gawdawful POS.

Saying you drove a Hyundai and hence don't like assisted power steering is like me saying I listened to Justin Bieber and hence don't like music. It has been a while since I have driven my LC, but I don't remember the steering being too heavy at all. That was with a freshened front end and 14x6 Globe Bathursts.

My point being, the Hyundai one might be bad, but there might be another one that would work better.

Well, you'll all be happy to know that i've "manned up" and have no power steering on my LC Lancer.
It is "heavy" to park and manouver around tight round abouts, but once you are moving, it is beautiful to drive

Just waiting for the arrival of my 17" wheels and new tyres to see if the steering gets heavier or lighter than how it is now (it has old 195/65/14s atm)

Project almost "engineered" and on the road.

Moving to QLD in 5 weeks - so the maiden voyager will be a long one !

I just wanna say after riding a bike.
driving a very stiff sigma with feather light steering at 110 on a bumpy road isn't very fun
there seems to be moments of limbo where you & the car are not talking to each other in a manner of speaking. (lol)
A bump throws you off course & you counter steer & just wait to see what happens.
not a problem at 60 because bumps send you flying out of your seat anyway.
