Advice please? Unsure what's realistic...

Post by movieapple »

Hi, I have a question, hoping for some advice please? I'm about to list (on a couple of sales sites) an old unregistered probably-not-running Scorpion for sale (for a cheap restore project or parts) and I'm unsure if this model (1982, 2.6 litre) had the Astron 1 or Astron 2 engine. Can anyone please advise?

Also, I'm thinking of listing for $200 - is that unrealistic for a non-running Scorpion? It's pretty exhausted compared to some running and beautiful condition (but not registered) Scorpions selling for $1000 to $2000 I've seen around, but with parts probably not common I'm really unsure what I should be selling it for.

I'm not really trying to make money out of it, I just want to see it go to a good home if possible (damn sentimental attachment!)

Anyway, any advice appreciated, thanks!

Hi, thanks for the responses. I didn't think to give much information, heh - sorry!

It's located in New South Wales, at Strathfield - but it has always been registered in South Australia (but the registration hasn't been renewed and is more than 2 years out of date now).

Information is:

Engine: It ran well when I parked it in this garage about two years ago, but it hasn't been run since. I have no idea what 2 years of non-movement does to an engine, but the battery is flat and as I don't live at the storage location, I'm just assuming it doesn't run anymore. There's also some corrosion around the water pump.

Body: Most panels have paint discolouration, but most of the panels are nice and straight. There's not much rust, only the bottom of the doors (pretty bad) and at the bottom of the windscreen (see pic below).

Interior: The front half of the interior is exhausted, the seats are torn, the dash is warped and cracked, the centre console is removed. The back half of the interior is in perfect condition, practically untouched.

Suspension: Everything is fine except the tie rod ends which are currently very worn out and need replacing. There's some problem that makes them wear out quickly (like in 30,000 to 50,000km - this is one of the reasons I garaged it, the front wheels would shake and I wanted to save some money to find out what was causing the tie rod ends to wear out rather than just replacing them again, but I never got round to it). The tyres are old and need replacing, two of them are flat.

My heart (sentimental attachment) would like to see someone buy it and bring it back to being a running machine, but I don't know if that's realistic.

I've linked some pics below. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

The photo is very dark because it's in a garage, I can only get there at night and I can't push the car in and out myself to take better photos.

This photo is 2 or 3 years old but much better. It doesn't show how much discolouration the panels have, but is a good indicator that it's fairly straight.

If you squint, you can see a large crack in the dash on the left as well as warping of the dash on the right.

There are about five rust spots along the bottom of the windscreen. This is the worst one.
