Sedan --> Wagon Doors

Post by C_Fernance »

The front passengers door on my Wagon had a lot of rust down the bottom, as well around the mirror and under the bump strip. I started out repairing it but after grinding it all back and cutting out the rust i ended up finding another door that was straight and completely rust free.

Most people would think this is ideal, however the door came off a sedan and i have a wagon. I trial fitted it and the lower section appears to fit great, but the window surround is the wrong shape and curves in more.

After speaking to Dad about it we decided the easiest way to fix it would be to swap the window surround. Today i stripped the wagon door and started removing the surround. After drilling out 8 spot welds, and grinding about 4cm of stitch weld I have this.

Thats as far as i have gotten today, hopefully i can get some more down tomorrow.

Doesnt the GC/D wagon use GA/B windscreens? That might explain it....

Did a bit more work on the door today. Got the sedan door stripped and removed the window surround. The bottom half of the door fits great.

I then trial fitted the wagon window surround and it looks like it will fit great.

Just need to weld it back in and the door will be ready to prep for paint.
