I thought someone said recently that there were only 1000 made.
If that's true, then they mustn't have started at 1.

On the ID plate on the firewall, under "SEATING CAP; 5" there should be a five digit number stamped "0----".
I am pretty sure thats it, everyone agree??????
I don't think it is the chassis number "A112------"?????

if that the case then mine should be changed to 00206. I had a look at the workshop manual and posted up a translation of the chassis number giving the particular details.

EDIT by Shuggy: http://www.sigma-galant.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=3015 end EDIT

Looking at that carbuddy website they say they were only released on Nov 74 which would mean that i have one of the very first cars to be released in Australia with it being complianced in October 74. This would make more sense then redbook which claims that there were none until 75.

I was talking to a guy who own a couple at a car show recently and he was also saying that there were only 1000 brought over here by mitsubishi. He had a jap import and he had thought that there were no 74 models in Australia except for the privately imported ones like his although mine proves that wrong. It would be good to get some confirmation on how many actually came over here originally.

I am pretty sure that is correct. If it was taken from the firewall stamp A112H number, mine would be 282 from 6/75. Seems more likely that it is 982 by the middle of 1975.
I agree we need some sort of info from MMAL of Chrysler Australia to confirm how many were actually imported.

Just reading the chassis info page I really think the build number is on the ID plate. As the chassis number was stamped in Japan it would flow numerically from there not Australia

Cheers

Why whats wrong with the GA that it would never be registered again? The earlier 2 door galants are pretty desirable. Even if there was a fair bit of rust in it i would still think it'd be salvageable considering it's rarity.

Well to the puritan it will probably bring a tear to your eye... Originally when I got the car it was a very grunty rally car - factory LSD - 4g32 - twin Webbers, no 5 cam etc - a very nice car that was (very fast) and surprisingly straight. I raced the car in a few rallies - but that did not really interest me as I had been into off-road racing (i.e. buggies) - so I decided to run the car in a short course stadium race - it went amazingly well until it got T-boned by another car (idiot thought he was in a smash up derby) - so I stripped the running gear out of the car and put it into a LA lancer body - which I then started to rally (which I still have and we have just finished a ground up bear metal rebuild on).

The Galant sat around for 12 months until we had this good idea (I didn't know how rare the car was) - so we gutted it, put a tunnel in it - pounded it out straight and mid mounted a 13b Rotary in it and then started to race it as a class 5 (modified sedan) - it went well but it's weak link was the front suspension - so we ran the car for a few years and then broke the front end once 2 often and put it in the corner - that was about 18 years ago.

So at Christmas my brother and I were talking and he reckoned that he could bring the body up a treat (he's a panel beater) - so I decided that I would spend a few dollars and give the car a major suspension upgrade - at this stage I'm thinking a A arm front end with fox shocks - I think we can get around 12" of travel - the motor is going to be a commodore VS motor (cheap and plenty of grunt) - so if all goes to plan it will resurface in the next 2 - 3 months as a significantly stronger - faster car and probably unlike any 2 door around - and of course it could never be registered and would be run as a performance 2WD off road race car.

as a continuation:
I would consider putting the car back together for the road - but when we gutted it I stripped out all the windows & chrome trim & dash etc so unless anyone had a good idea where I could get those sort of parts it's not going to see the light of day as a street car again.

I guess the expression is "young n dumb" I was only 18 or 19!

Hi,
My GC Hardtop was originally sold in Grafton NSW. I purchased it about 5 years ago from the second owner (also in Grafton) who replaced the corroded original head with a square port version. He then realised the exhaust manifold didn't fit and could only find extractors which are still fitted. Otherwise it was completely bog standard original when I purchased it, even with factory hubcaps. My minor modification have been kept to what was available during the 70s/80s era.

I have made the relevant changes.

I also had a white '74 GC Hardtop which previously belonged to my son. It was somewhat rusty so I wrecked it about 4 years ago.

I have owned 5 Galants since 1972 and my present GC Hardtop is the most recent model.
