Axle Tramp
Who has it?
I do!
Who has any suggestions as to the best way to get rid of it?
I have repalced the rear shocks in my GC, didn't help. Looking as though the best option is Tramp Rods.
I am sure this is not a new issue but I could find nothing about it around the new or old forum!

Re: Axle Tramp
Next time youre at the wreckers get another set of leaf springs. Cut a pair of single leafs so they reach from just behind the front eyelet to about 1/3 of the way past the axle. Bolt them under the existing leafs. Fixed.

Re: Axle Tramp
I've just done the extra leaf trick.... didn't work. Gunna try maybe tramp rods and, or, an adjustable pinion support. Was going to get a Mcdonald Bros two link, but muffler is in the way.

Re: Axle Tramp
9 times out of 10 the shockers wont do a thing in a leaf suspension setup (as long as they are still a shocker, not just a pogo stick with out a spring)
-Your leaves will no doubt be twisting up, the shocker is mounted in the centre so has no effect on the twisting....
As T has also pointed to, extra leaves will fix the problem there. Also check on the engine mounts & gearbox mount; it can be passed down the line.
What engine are you running? gear box? how many leaves have you already got in the rear?
Nick.

Re: Axle Tramp
Running 2.6 w/ 5 speed.
Engine mounts are fine, geabox mount is new as are the shocks.
It has 2 leafs per spring (which I understand is minimal)
I have new bushes to fit to the springs also.

Re: Axle Tramp
this has come up to many times to remember
1/check all rear end bushes
2/ check you engine g/box angle
3/ check uni's
4/ fit an engine brace
5/check diff pinion angle
6/ fit coil over shocks
7/fits caltrak bars
8/fit watts linkage bars
do these in order and you shouldnt have axel tramp
ps no lowering blocks!!!!
cheers stealth

Google is your friend, we could spell it out, but if you do a search im sure there is atleast one picture out there.
What engine mounts are you using? standard galant ones? or GE/GH sigma?
& yes, 2 is asking for trouble - nice and comfy though, either add a front half or a full one should do the trick.
...& if you have new bushs, they work better in the car than on the bench

Re: Axle Tramp
GH sigma mounts. I did notice they sit a little higher than Galant ones I used them as they help with getting the tuned length extractors to clear.
Re: Axle Tramp
My wagon has 3 full leaves and 1 short, It axle tramps like a bitch
The only time it doesn't is if I put stockies under it.
The more traction I have, the more I have the problem (am I right?)
A guy I know who rallies a GB galant told me he fixes it with extra links from the top of the rear axle housing, to brackets he mounts under the floor under the back seat.
(like top 2 links off a 4 link rear end)
Haven't seen his car yet, but that's how he fixes it.

Re: Axle Tramp
i got same problem, it suckksssss
heard you can also turn the leaf springs over to get them stronger? this right?
i was gonna take off the springs of my other galant, double them up n flip em over to make em solid. dont even need shocks then

Re: Axle Tramp
We did that a few years ago with a GB Sedan. We welded some bracing behind the front seats on the b pillars and c pillars, then welded all 4 doors up and cut the roof off leaving the windscreen and sun visors.shuggy wrote:yes, yes i do, 3/4 of me just tells me to get rid of it when they come n pik up my colt, but 1/4 of me just wants to keep it n wait for the next project so i have spares..letmefknin wrote:Do you still have your other one?
