Hate to be "that guy" but you really are pushing shit up hill.
Just go buy a S chassis Nissan or R32. Besides the fact they are meant to be sideways, seriously, the way these things feel sideways you could drift to the shops for bread everyday. But they have an entire world of after market parts to suit.
The time and money you will spend to make the Galant even a little bit fun and not have people point and laugh you could have bought a junked SR20 S13, chuck some cheap tiens at it, a used bride, some pineapples for the rear, rose jointed caster rods and a boost controller and it will be a very fun car.

So I was thinking of building one... But a budget build... God knows, I could get it out there, and realise that they really are crap to drift.. So then it'll stick to khanas and circuit...

Honestly if people want to drift their cars so be it, what makes it any different than those of us that want to strip our cars down to the mininum, cage and race either drag, rally, or road race? As long as he does it right and not half ass things. S13 Drift missiles are good for practice though, you can beat ever living shit out of them and then when decent take the galant out later when you have gotten better at not making love to a wall lol. It's what I would do anyway if I got into Drifting, buy Drift Missile for practice.

When done right it can be like this..It's got a 4AGE with ITBs though . There's a few TE72s that drift out here as well.

Personally i disagree with the fact that these can't be drifted.. Anything rwd can if the supporting mods are there.. even if it does take a while to actually build the car, the end result will be so worth it sliding past other nissan fanboys showing them something "different" for once. My starion's purpose is exactly for just that.. I think a car shows a personality from a person also and the different people out there who show this aren't your typical sheep follower's. So i say i cannot wait to see what you do with this Michael .

Not saying they "can't be drifted", anything can and my hardtop slides pretty well. Good enough for a track, not nearly.
I was just saying there is a reason the S chassis will forever be the drift cars of choice.
If you are wanting to learn to slide, find a tight dirt road or lay some cones out in a paddock and see how you go controlling slides.
I really don't think a Galant will be fun to drift without spending maybe $2000 on suspension and double that on the drive train then maybe $1000 on shitty wheels and tryes and another $1000 on hand brake and exhaust.
So we are at 8k for a car that might work?? and you might be able to drive.
8k will get you a good S chassis and seriously, a mildly retarded monkey could drift a S chassis

Yeah your right, i spose it comes down to what level of drifting are we talking about for the galant.. may it be for pro use or just as a drift hack job which is what its leaning towards it seems. Either way it should be something worth trying especially on a budget and can always build it up over time after he gets a bit of seat time on the track and works out what needs to be modified to make it perform better.

P.S I guess secretly i dislike most nissan made vehicles and i'm a bit biased .

I am not a big late model Nissan fan my self but I have worked with imports for about 15 years and have done a lot of track days. They are a fun chassis and an easy slider.

As for seeing if I can drift.. The way I see it is.

Strip the hardtop to be as light as possible.
Create some dodgy tramp bars
Weld diff
Lower it
Put a powerful engine in it (I reckon $2k will cover it with a vr4. I already have most conversion parts for it)
Take her out to archy and bash it around the track..

See what needs working on, if I'm shit at it... So what, circuit car it is

All up... It will cost me aprox $3k at the most (hopefully... We all know that gets blown away )

Lol even if I got a S13, I'd yank the motor and swap a g63t in, but that's just me. Drifting on tarmac vs dirt/gravel are two different worlds, easier to kick the rear out on a slick surface or dirt yhan on dry pavement. Gotta deal with friction and traction. A stock galant drift on pavement? Not chance with that lack of hp lol. Usually easy enough to just but used tires from someone or snag some from a tire shop's used bin for practice. Depending on how much you really want to get into it will dictate how far you are willing to dump the funds into it. Jason I'm roughly around 6k in parts for the Coupe and that's mostly all related to the g63t and drive train to support lol.

And honestly... I'd probably buy a different engine from a similar family...

I've never really had much to do with hemi's... Except strip and rebuild them... But the 265 was a strong engine, but would it be enough??
