Single or twin cam? If you're after a single cammer it should be a no-brainer to pull the engine + gearbox out of a L200 express ute. Easy to work on, lighter than the astron and a carby for straight forward set up. Not sure if the factory extractors from the L200 will clear the engine x-member and if there is an easy swap for the tail shaft...

are single cam and twin cam heads interchangable on a 4G63?????

If they are, why don't you get the block from a perfomrance based car like an evo.....then change the head back to a single cammer???

(in theory), You'd have a stronger bottom end from factory

^and that is how you throw away a couple of grand to go backwards. If you have the kind of coin needed to secure an Evo engine - you use everything from that engine for the transplant. I think yno26galant wanted a straight forward swap out on a budget. The SOHC G63B engine won't screw up the balance of the car and you'll really notice the jump in torque and response over the stock engine.

The Best and easiest way to go is get a donor Galant VR4 or RVR about $2000-$3000 and take everything off that car, in addition you need to relocate the water outlet, water pump outlet, alternator bracket. google Jay racing in the US for those parts. (i got mine in 10 days), you will need a Narrow block gearbox, (sigma gearboxes are weak, you need a W58 supra 5 speed with dellow belhousing if you go for more power $2000)
you can get some big power out of the 4G63, you wont get any change out of $5000 doing it cheap. to do it with just purchasing a engine will cost you $10000+ doing it right. (im up to $12000 and still not finished)
good luck it will be a beast.
