It would be good to get hold of one of these heads, do a 3D scan, and get them milled or cast. The cost of buying the head would be more than what you'd get in return for reproducing it. Hopefully someone that has one might be kind enough to lend us one. I also had the idea of using a 3D scan of a 4G63 DOHC head, and modding it to fit the 4G54 block, and then milling one. No matter what you do, to get a DOHC 4G54, it'll cost a heap.

some pri-k has two of them! :@
that just not right :banh:
do we know the power figures that go with them ?
becuase thats the question are thay worth it ,i dont think that thay would make
to much more than a fully preped head with all mods ,thats half the prices so?
the one i seen was on a us stazza and old mate paid $30 grand for the car with engine :wank:

Someone at that forum is saying that destroked to 2.3L, the 4G54 with DOHC produced 209kW/280HP.

Not sure if that was TC or NA. Probably with a turbo. The 2JZ-GTE (3.0L inline 6 twin turbo DOHC) also produces around 208kW from the factory.

well there not good numbers
as a 2.6 with all the fruit and a 8v head with stealth mods makes 240hp at flywheel
at 6280
so twin cam is a waste of time

Probably twin cam *as is* would not be worth it. But twin cam + mods might make it worth it, IF the DOHC head was similar price to the SHOC head. If only I had the time, money, and someone with the HKS DOHC head to lend me one to make a copy, I would try it out. The only problem with borrowing a DOHC head and making copies is that it potentially makes the originals drop a bit in price. At the moment they are that expensive that they are pretty much worthless. If only someone that had one would put the money into making reproductions, and actually get something from the head, since they wont be able to flog it off for the amount that it is worth.

Just a reminder why you don't need twin cams, the old 4g54 does okay, lol

about right stealth but they where prob a bigger deal when they were made - getting high figures out of the old astron 1 head
was a lot harder
which was what there were up against - I think an astron 1 ported to the max would still have worse figures than a std M6/7

I agree that the HKS twin cam is a bit of a waste time now but not at the time it was built

Re: blown head

yeah true
if we cast them now knowing what we know now we might get some
serious number
problem is ive got a massive wallet but still cant justify it when you can bolt up a turbo
and make over 400 no problem with std ports
so again cant justify wasting time and money going twin cam
and you would be hard pressed beating a 4g63bt anyway

dont get me wrong big boy i still would port match the head and cc the cambers but it would
be nothing overboard and then wind in more boost ;-)
cause the astron is good for up to 36psi if your bottom end is right and o,ringed
twincam pffffttttt useless i say

I can't remember where it was, but I remember seeing specs for an Astron based drag car that was using 50psi boost.

i used to work in a engine reconditioning workshop in sydney. i knew a drag racer man who worked there who said V8s are the best engine in the world after the holden 202 motor lol, he knew the guy (kevin i think) who ran 50PSi in an astron engine and ran 7's. he filled the block with grout and ran massive boost. he was in a lot of my fast 4's mags in the back in the record section with a 2.6L engine lol i always saw him there, and then my '202' man mentioned him one day he said he ran a standard engine and rebuilt it after 2 or 3 runs lol. didn't know weather to believe him or not cos i know V8s aren't the best lol

Mopar V8's are the shizzle
Astron then 4G63 DOHC then 7AGE then 3SGE then Cosworth BDA for the fours
2JZGTE then RB26DE Autech then 1GGTE then RB20DET then 6G72TT for the sixes

DOHC Astron is porn, but heaps too exxy for my wallet. I can barely afford an Astron 1 head from the wreckers, even with the heavy discount I get lol
