strong vibrations over 30 KPH

Post by 13bsigma »

hi guys. jet has decided to give me more grief. just fixed the fuel leak and she now vibrates a lot over 30 kph. started at anything over about 60 kph but now worse. all this happened over the space of 5 kms. i do give her a hard time. dropping clutch a lot in 2nd and 3rd gear. the tail shaft is a 1 piece that has a little play in it.

it is leaking a drip every few seconds from back of gearbox too.
also if i put my foot on clutch the vibrations become noticably worse.
also vibrations happen in any gear even neutral.

could it be:
1 the drip from back of box. . gearbox low on oil and cranky?
2 diff not happy with 260 stalions heading its way.
3 axels not happy either
4 wheel bearing. has been making some noise lately
5 clutch issues.
6 anything else?

No.5 is my guess.
I had a clutch plate lose about 1/3 of the friction pad and had a similar issue.

Remove the inspection plate and see if there is a lot of debris in there.
If there is, drop the box replace the clutch and the rear gearbox seal while it's out.

Cheers.

I bet you've stretched the tailshaft bolts...
Check them. There's only 4....
My Datsun 1200 Coupe used to do it all the time.

well the tail shaft turns a little and also moves forward into the gearbox a little and back. . so there is some play in that regards. . that sounds cheap and easy to fix lol. something i dont experience a lot of. hahaha.

i'll check it tomorrow. thanks a lot guys :)

Actually take the bolts out and look at them. My Datsun used to stretch them so much they would snap. I replaced mine with Hi-Tensile bolts with Nylock nuts. That seemed to fix it.

This might be why.....

If you drive it like that, you WILL BREAK THINGS, and that costs money. If you don't like spending it, don't drive like that.
