progress report for any who cares
I have removed the auto trans and installed a borg-warner 5 speed. Will post some pics soon. I am going to have modify my g/box crossmember as the bolt holes are about 100mm out.
Clutch pedal and cable installed.

cheers
Rob

MMC (JAP) gear box would have been better choice, Borg-Warner may not last the distance, they have a bad reputation.

Rest of car looks great for its age, good to see another one preserved.

Block is a narrow block, didnt think I could get a jap 5speed to suit.

Any 2 litre Sigma box. You would also need the Jap clutch plate

There pretty common in the GE series sigmas, GE scorpions and L200 express(different clutch, bigger input shaft, tailshaft) correct me if I'm mistaken on the last. Playing around with a few different combinations.

And in around the model you have one with a step back gear shift

oh well, - Not happy with this gearbox at all.
you guy's were right, the BW box is a peice of crap. Albeit a peice of crap that does not leak oil now. 2nd gear is like breaking rocks with a hammer.
I will put the efi on remove the balance shafts ( b/shafts - hopefully pickup 150hp  ).
So the japbox is "better", does that mean stronger? If so I spose I could go to the wreckers and get a jap box from a 2ltr sigma, and you guys reckon I need the flywheel and new clutch , the whole box n dice? Sux coz I had the flywheel lightened.

You can still use your lightened flywheel

The only difference with the clutch is the spline on the input shaft of the box is slightly different. You just need the Jap clutch plate

Have alook around your local wreckers for a box out of gk gn (stepback gear shift type), gear stick will be less of a problem to come through the floor.
tail-shaft spline will be different.

Cause of the auto shift small hole some alteration maybe required.
Have done quite a few auto-manual conversion last one in my scorpion, came up great.

I'm in Ipswich so if you need some help. will PM number.

ok, I think I will do that.
so I'm looking for a 5speed from a 2ltr GK or GN.
1. I need a new clutch
2. mod tail-shaft / (different spline)
what about the speedo drive ? also will I have to change the Xmember again?

cheers

Rob, yes the speedo cable is different, along with the tail shaft & rear cross member. You must get the correct clutch plate to suit the input splines of the gearbox, as BW is slightly different to Jap. (I think the number of splines is the same, but the spline depth is different.)
Easiest way to pick a Jap box from a BW . . . . . Jap has reverse below 5th, where BW has reverse up next to 1st.

just so you know, the Satellite is actually a version of the Sigma that was sold in New Zealand

the name Lonsdale is after the suburb in Adelaide where the cars were built.

they were produced by a company called Lonsdale who eventually went bust.

so i'm unsure whether or not yours is an actual Lonsdale or it has just got the satellite side strips.....

On a trivial note, only the engines were produced at Mitsubishi's Lonsdale plant, then taken to their huge assembly plant at Tonsley Park. Both plants were located in the southern suburbs of Adelaide until their closure several years ago following the ill-fated 380 project.
