New to forum.... Bought 78 Colt Galant

Post by trackbeast90 »

Hey guys, Just bought my first 78 Colt Galant for $400 running condition and clean, Im not familiar with these cars as aftermarket or oem bolt ins/swaps. But I've had, had 7 station/coqnuest's all at one time all running that is. So I'm super familiar with the G54B's, My question is How easy is the swap, What bolts in, Trans Mount, What rear diff to use, drive shaft? also what about the shocks and struts? what is a direct easy swap for those are they're aftermarket or can we use the starion strut's and spindles? please let me know thanks guys!

Hi trackbeast90, welcome to S-G. The 4G54 engine swap is the most common engine swap into Galants or the Colt as they were sold state side. It will depend on what engine block type is being used (wide or narrow) that will impact on it being a straight forward nut and bolt swap. Seeming you've been into the Starion/Conquest and know your way around them this will be a piece of cake for you to do a drivetrain swap. Starion struts are a good upgrade for brakes and suspension and will only require the strut top to be changed (as far as I know...) for it to bolt in. Rear springs can be upgraded with something beefier by sourcing a Colt/Galant wagon and taking all the related mounting hardware. And, as InsaneTD pointed out - use the search function http://www.sigma-galant.com/search.php it is your friend (...are you channeling me dude? ) oh, and POST PICS! Guys here love to check out the noob members' rides

Hi trackbeast90 and welcome to the site. All the info you need can be found here. Most of us are from Australia or at least RH drive countries so some things will differ given your car is LH drive but we do have a couple of American members who have done exactly what you are thinking.
Good luck and keep us up to date with pics and progress reports

Welcome to the site. Also remember your car is called a SIGMA over here so that might help you in finding things ;-)
The most expensive car I've ever bought was a 1984 Mitsubishi... in 2014.

One thing to note. Are you from the US? If so, in your market the Colt line of cars was a bit different. Is your car a Dodge Colt Galant sedan or wagon? To clarify, what I'm asking is, is it a second generation Galant body style or a third generation? Use this wikipedia link to help you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Galant and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Colt. Both generations are easy to fit a G54B to, but the third generation (which was only sold in the US in wagon form as a Dodge Colt Wagon in 1978 and 1979) has a little more room under the bonnet (specially between the struts), the same as a Starion/Conquest actually.

So does the front of your car look like this?
