4g63T in a ge sigma

Post by 2Lgalant »

So was thinking the sigmas came 2L so it doesn't need engineers what if I go turbo does it still have to be engineered ?

As far as I'm aware.. Sigmas only came out with the 4g52 2.0. Not the 4g63 2.0..

So yes. You will need a mod tag

Yes I know they only come in 52's but 52's and 63's are both 2l so why does it need engineering ?

In qld. If the chassis came out with the engine in question. It doesn't need to pass a engineer.

Eg. A hq kingswood. You don't need a tag to put a 350sb chev in it. Because the same chassis came out with that engine from standard. Same as my dohc 4g63 in my l200. Difference is the new engine is dohc. Same block. So no engineer cert :)

Most certified modifications are based on engine options for that year and model of vehicle, increase in engine capacity or alternately power output. Then there's all the other regulations governing license class (p platers and turbos don't mix  ) Maybe have a chat to the member selling their VR4 powered sigma and ask what requirements did they have to meet for a successful registration slip.

You will only need to get engineers cert for emissions measures and possibly braking capacity.
Other than that it should be all sweet.

In Vic, you only need to meet the emissions levels for the compliance plate of the VEHICLE, not the engine (which includes noise)

It's far easier (for a certificate point of view) to turbocharge the original 2L than the 4G63.......mainly because you are still performing an engine conversion, irrespective of its capacity or pwoer output

But then it's just boring plain old astron. I was thinking of going all out when I save up abit and go 4g63T with big power ratings nice rebuilt engine nice turbo big intercooler you know how it is but I'm not sure now I've got more worries to do it I think I might just sell the engine and the car got to many engines and cars to worry about at the moment

We're definately not saying you shouldn't use an Astron engine
(Remember, Mitsubishi themselves turbocharged the Astron 2L from factory)

We are only trying to give you the pro's and con's of using the Aus Vs. Jap 2L engines...that's all
Both engines are great for use in turbo applications...it's just that either engine requires you to jump different hurdles...simple as that

Yeah I get that just can't be buggered to go through so much work then pay shit loads more just to get it engineered. just not bothered all that much in doing that conversion if its so hard in the end but if it was so easy everyone would do it
