Sigma wagon jap 5 speed noises

Post by 516MA »

Hi guys

Since ive been away from the sigma thing for a while (my GE had rust everywhere and i lost enthusiasm in a full on project) and ive been looking for a daily i had a look on carsales for a sigma, and hey peresto i found this:

http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/dea ... &silo=1011

so i thought should have a look, went down spoke to salesman he told me that the car had relocated to his other caryard, and the gearbox had a noisy 2nd gear but he had already organized another one at a wreaking yard, so went down to have a look, car looks alright not too bad, little rust lower lh passengers door, little in engine bay, cracked headlight, which all will need to be fixed for a RWC, (maybe not the engine bay rust) looked alright so we took it for a drive step dad drove (im still on my L's) 1st gear very very noisy, 2nd again noisy, 3rd still noisy, 4th all good no more noise, so drove it back and handed it back to him, and left next im going in monday to see whats going on with price and this gear box.

So my questions are:

its a jap box i thought they were generally good wearing?

Now the clutches are different on a jap box to a borgy arent they? (just dont wanna get the wrong end of the deal and end up with a borgy box.)

now with this the seats are terrible, are there any easy to get/fit replacements?

but overall, i may have fallen for it :D :D :D as soon as i saw it i wanted it even with a gearbox that sounds like a f1 car squeal lol it even had logbooks! with full service history :)

Thanks for help/ info and critism.

Wait for replacement gearbox to be fitted and then test drive car again.Note that on jap gearbox, reverse is located on right hand side of shift pattern, and on local Borg Warner box, reverse is located on left hand side on shift pattern.Jap box is far superior in shift quality and durability than Borg Warner box.Whining or winding noise from gearbox usually indicates worn transmission bearings or chipped/pitted gears, not surprising since car has done more than 350000kms.
