Recommended workshop for gearbox rebuild [SA]

My R154 supra box in the galant has been fairly noisy for a while now. hoped it was just the thrust bearing so had that replaced but didnt fix it. been told it either the bearings or the gears themselves. most likely the gears. also been told these boxes are relatively hard to find at times and wouldnt expect much change from $1000 for one. So before this one actually breaks is prefer to get it pulled apart and have the bearing and or the gears done. considering upgrading to aftermarket gear if possible as want it to handle the power i hope to eventually get out of the engine.
so, anyone used any mechanics they would recommend for this sort of thing and any advice. prefer a performance workshop but then obviously pay more etc etc.
cheers in advance
