I apologise if I'm bending the rules a little.
My GN 2.6 ltr starter motor question has been well answered but one important part is still 'hanging in the air'.
That is - the engine CODE number.
The only number I can find is on a flat section of the block just below number one spark plug hole.
It reads, in full: V511V044670, .
Certainly no sign of any 4G3.. or 4G5.. etc.
Date of producion, from the compliance plate, is 3/86.
I have got an OEX Enduro replacement starter with these numbers listed on the 'carton'
MSX 201. DJBA.
Also listed on the carton, the above Eng. code references.
So what CODE is my engine?
I want to be 100% sure the starter is correct.
Any clues?
Engine code confusion. Sigma GN.
Re: Engine code confusion. Sigma GN.
Look on the rear passengers side of the block near the bottom.
It should be cast onto the block.
It will either be 4G52 or 4G54.
Hope this helps?

Re: Engine code confusion. Sigma GN.
Does it look like its been restamped.... when you deck the block you loose the engine number some times....might be a re issued number from vic roads... ive had one block like this...with a weird number??
1972 GA GALANT/COLT, with a VR4 4G63T 151kw atw :-)
Re: Engine code confusion. Sigma GN.
Thanks. The link above and one on from there leave me with the impression that it is a Magna/Sigma overlap(?) type engine.
I can't see anything re the code down at the rear passenger side of the block.
It's 'in situ' and awkward to see there, even though the starter is out.
A helpful ebay auto electrical supplier has a variety to chose from.
I'm considering a geared Magna one if he has them.
i want to 'throw' the pinion further forward than what i've had - if I can.
