A friend has a Mitsubishi 3000GT with DOHC 6G72. The engine bay looks to be only just big enough to fit the engine. To change the rear 3 spark plugs, you need to remove the intake manifold first. Just the position of the engine make it look like there would be plenty of awkward things when servicing the engine.
Here is a pic of a 3000GT engine bay:

Yes I was kidding ;) But not about the head gasket, that pretty hard to do
Only problem is no2 behind the turbo. I usually use an old plug lead , put the new plug into the old lead and wind it in with the lead. Just to get it started at least.
I also use the aluminium paste anti seize.

Most awkward job I'll never forget. Honda S2000 soft canvas roof replacement. Longest 2 days of my life.
Haha, I sounds so easy.

Replacing turbo's and manifolds in a r33 gtr with the motor in the car absolute nightmare.

Removing, rebuilding and replacing the gearbox in a Volvo 1800ES (on to the 3rd year now...)
Replacing the headliner in said vehicle (Wooden frame )
Replacing dashpad in said vehicle (you have to remove the windscreen )
And doing it in a cold dark garage, which turns into a hot wet garage in summer
Doing anything under the dashboard without taking the seats out or the doors off
In addition ... doing ANYHING on a modern motorcycle when you only have half-inch drive sockets - much easier if you have 3/8 or quarter inch jobbies ;)

Re: Awkward jobs
changing starter motor in 355 lj torana with vn style exhaust ports and big tuned length 4 into 1 headers is about the biggest pain i have ever come across
Requires the removal of the engine box and front suspension/k frame from under the car,
once out need to take off headers that are 8 individual pipes with slip on collectors this job in it self is an art as they need to come off and go on in sequence
remove trans and ring gear, remove starter

rusty exhaust pipes where the bolts snap off and pieces of flakey rust want to go in your eyes or AT LEAST down inside your clothes.

agreed. done it on an R32 GTR... not the most fun ya can have. The friggin oil/water lines, man what a nightmare
and removing the GTR box is a bastard too. it took us farkin hours to do it, cos we didnt realise that ya gotta knock the pin out of the clutch fork so it releases, and the throw out bearing stays on the clutch assembly...
but we no now, not that im planning on doing it again, EVER
Re: Awkward jobs
Changing rear brake pads in the old jags cant remember wat model but you have to remove the axels not exactly hard just fukin dumb and really time consuming took us a whole day when we were at tafe. The tafe teacher only made us do it because 1 bloke complained about having to bleed all 4 brake lines when we only changed the rear brakes reckons wed never whine about doing anything brake related after doing that and i agree unless i have to do it again.

Re: Awkward jobs
Try the timing chain in a MKII Jag. You literally had to take the engine out to do it.
Dad figured out a way to do it WITHOUT removing the engine (a bit of creative modification required) and he was still receiving phone calls 10yrs after the fact, asking how he did it.
Genuine service to replace the timing chain was around $800- (back in 1980) $80 for the timing chain, the rest in labor.
Cheers.

Re: Awkward jobs
A while back I had a 1989 Toyota Cressida with a 7M-GE. IIRC, the oil filter was in an awkward position, and was pretty difficult to get an oil filter remover onto it.
Re: Awkward jobs
I did a favour for a bloke at work a little while ago.
Water pump on a 96 barina/ swift.
you have to take the drivers wheel off, remove plastic panelling under the chassis rail.
Drop the front right engine mount and lower the motor about 6 inches.
remove bottom pulley.
take off timing case
undo altenator, remove belt.
undo dip stick (or you can't take the bolt out of the altenator)
remove timing belt.
then put in the water pump.
It took me about 6 hours.
I had to buy a rattle gun just to get the bottom pulley off.
He'd only had the timing belt replaced 2 weeks earlier by a mechanic! (who obviously likes rattle guns)
moral: If you change the timing belt on a car that has the water pump behind it, then change it as well.

Replacing Spark plug leads on an EF/EL Falcon, when a Taxi has come in and needs them done Hot is fun.
Coolant Bypass pipe of those models Falcon was a joy also.
And doing an Auto rebuild on a SAAB, where the Auto is actually the Sump of the Engine

Re: Awkward jobs
I would take it you are referring to a classic Saab 900? Those are great fun - not! Changing alternator/power steering/AC belts on thise is a bitch too. North-south engine but the timing chain end faces the firewall. Not a lot of room between engine and firewall. All very "hurdy gurdy"And doing an Auto rebuild on a SAAB, where the Auto is actually the Sump of the Engine
Plus side is a clutch on them can be done with the engine and gearbox still in the car.
H3 Hummer oil filters are a bitch to get to. Not that i'm proud of having worked on them in the first place.
Cars: 2009 Hyundai i30 (daily/driver training car), 2001 Saab 9-5 Aero (project), 1977 GD Galant (rally car)
"It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?"
