Engineer's Cert

Post by S1GMARE »

Has anyone had expirence with getting an Engineers certificate for an engine conversion? In this case a V6.
I'm curious of the cost and time involved with the consultation. Any help would be appreciated.

im in the process of engineering my lancer with v6 in it
it quite involed, you need the engineer to inspect at every stage
of the build this ends up costing you
what do you need to know?
remembering that state laws are different
cheers stealth 8-)

Not sure what you mean when you say the engineer needs to inspect every stage. I would have thought there would just a list of criteria/standards to be met followed by an inspection?

What he wanted is....
info on the origional engine/setup
info on the current engine/setup
A list of phone numbers of people who worked on the car (if u didnt do it urself)
Then
He jumped into the car drove it to 60kph and slammed the brakes, the car had to stop in a certain distance, then did the same at 80 and 100kph...
He put the car on the hoist and had a 30 second look
Took the car off the hoist filled the paper work, shook my hand, I gave him $800 and i left.
I got this done in 02 or 03 so price and rules might have changed...

Thanks DVSGAL.
I'm sure it would be pretty much the same with my car.
The only thing that was made were the mounts and tailshaft.
Will just need on a cat converter and ULP filler neck.

my car has a custom crossmember both engine and g/box
engineer had to in spect it in bare meatal and wants certificate for
a sonic and crack test,
also inspected the removal of cams approved cage
my brakes were a problem again needed inspecting before assembly
and seat mount are a ongoing nightmare
as it stands only 27
things to change to make him happy
and i have to use a 2.5lt 6g72 engine number as thats the limit wont
allow the 3lt

Sonic and crack test cross member?
I put in a V6 not a jet engine. I suppose they need to justify the $$$$ they charge.
