How to setup a regulator for the alternator

Post by 75glnt »

Hey guys... I have just got my dizzy back from the shop and it turns out its an externally regulated one. I had a Bosch re55 regulator but I seem to have missplaced it :ban:

What I want to know is. Where does it all go?

Power from the loom? Where's it go? To the alt? Or to the reg?
Entire regulator (I know one wire goes to the alt. where's the other one go?)
Then the wire from the battery to the alt.

Thanks guys :)

With all due respect - WTF is an "externally regulated dizzy" ?

If you mean alternator - look up the wiring diagram in the workshop manual. I assume you have one ? If not, buy one. They are cheap, and a far better source of accurate information for this sort of thing than asking questions on the internet and having people trying to explain electrical connections etc with words.

A factory workshop manual is the best purchase you can make when fixing old cars.

Umm what wires have you got loose. there should be like three. one for the glow lamp which runs to the dash. the wire to the battery should have a big ring on the end and will be thicker than the others. then the sensor wire which should be the remaining wire what else is there?

I have 2 wires.

Wire from the loom that was plugged to the F on the alt.

And the one from the alt to the + terminal of the battery.

Just take out the back and stick one of these in:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/171049946150

As long as you have a charge light pin on the back of the alternator itself

Or if you dont, install one of these
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Genuine-Bosc ... 1161519436

and just hook up the the L side to the charge light and S side to main output stud.

There is a wire soldered onto the back of the original one that connects to a brush, just cut it and crimp a 2.8 or 4.8mm female blade terminal on and connect it to the pin on the back of the new one that connects to the same brush that the original one did.

So on the back of your alternator you have one of those things that you plug your wires into. If you unscrew it it will just come out but if its an oldy there will be a wire soldered on the back. Just cut it and crimp a connector on and attach it. They both do the same thing, just one is wired and the other is wireless.

The two black Things are the brushes.

I'm talking about the tiny little tab bottom left next to the screw
