Cool and Ugly at the same time - The Colt Bakkie
I love these! So ugly but so cool!
Re: Cool and Ugly at the same time - The Colt Bakkie
Yeah lol, I can see my slight 90 kg, 6'3" frame behind the wheel of this gem. If I managed to get into it they would end up needing to cut me out of it. That cab looks freaking tiny. It is cool - gotta be a super rare though...

Wow. Never knew they existed.

Think it would look better if the "B" pillar sloped back a little but still s very cool little ute.
Re: Cool and Ugly at the same time - The Colt Bakkie
Yeah true, strange design! Not much room in the cabin at all. That white one looks in better nick than mine. I should get mine out for better pics at some point.....
Re: Cool and Ugly at the same time - The Colt Bakkie
The yellow one is pretty offensive, lol
Looking at the white one again I think what they needed was longer doors, they look the same as the sedan. Guess we are used to utes using 2 door doors
Yes you should get yours out for some pics, give me a yell if you need a hand

wow never knew these existed but if it had longer doors would look a ton better
Re: Cool and Ugly at the same time - The Colt Bakkie
Yeah more cabin room to go along with the longer doors would help too! I've only driven mine 3 times - once to get it inspected for SA rego and twice to sort my historic rego. They feel so small inside!
Re: Cool and Ugly at the same time - The Colt Bakkie
I've had it maybe 6-12 months Leigh. Bought it based on the owners word and pics and description - had it trucked down from North QLD. Unfortunately the pics don't show how poor condition it's in - pretty bad rust . I'm not happy with the owners at all as they never mentioned anything bad about the car. All good though, it's unique! It was privately imported from South Africa over 20 years ago and as far as I know it's the only one in Oz

i reckon I can see a little heritage from that colt in the L200.
Japan at the time really was only designing cars as big as they needed to be -funny to think there were utes and vans even smaller. Wasn't there a 360cc 'minica' or something?

I disagree -if you can halt or slow the rust, i'd leave it mostly as it is. It looks great, colour is fantastic and the next closest one is thousands of Km away- it doesn't need the character buffed out of it and any custom bling to stand out.vr4retrofit wrote:I'd say go all out on this one. Complete bare metal repair and respray and DOHC 4g63 conversion.

Yeah they made a Minica Pick-up in the early 60's
The Ute needs some major welding if a restoral is on the cards but the beauty of SA rego is I'm in no rush now that is has been given SA plates
