Hi All,
I have come to the realisation that I carry to many tools around in the boot of my car... lets face it am I really going to need a torque wrench on the side of the road... no. Plus with fuel prices on the rise hauling around an the extra 30kg (it's a big bag) is probably not advisable from a cost or performance point of view.
Just thought I would start a thread to get an idea of what others have put together to get them out of trouble in an emergency... are there any sigma/galant/lancer/scorpion specific items which we carry around?
To get started my list is looking like this at the moment:
Jack
Jump Cables
Cable ties
Duct tape
WD40 (Small Can)
Socket Set (10mm to 23mm set with spark plug)
Combination Ratchet Spanners Set
Pliers (long, linesman, diagonal)
Hammer or pry bar (crash repair)
Vice grips
Water Hose (50cm) plus 2 hose clamps
1 Litre Engine Oil
2.5 Coolant Premix
500ml Brake Fluid
In terms of the tools quite like some of Teng tool Australia sets but haven't found anything of the shelf that completely satisfies the list above.
Any thoughts...
Dave

Re: Tool Kits...
I carry the genuine tool kit that came with the Scorpion, and an RAA card.
While I am a qualified mechanic, and could probably rebuild the car on the side of the road, the general reason I drive the car is not to have to work on it on the side of the road. Therefore if some road side maintenance is required I will be using the mobile phone to call the RAA, who are employed to do just that.
The weight of the mobile phone and RAA card, no idea, but must weigh less than an hammer. A lot easier to transfer from car to car too.

Re: Tool Kits...
I do own a leather bound vintage car tool kit, with tyre levers, stilsons, screwdrivers, hammer, open ended spanners etc...
But it lives locked in the shed. If I remember to do so I will put it in the boot on club runs just as a talking point.
Not sure the imperial spanners will work on anything on the Scorpion though
To answer the original question through, if you want to carry tools then: duct tape, safety blade, shifter (which doubles as a spanner and hammer), double ended screwdriver like found in Ford's tool kit.

Re: Tool Kits...
Not owning a mobile phone (I will resist as long as humanly possible) is probably the reason I have such a large tool kit... Always been a bit of a self sufficiency kinda guy plus don't like it when other people touch my car! Last towie that picked me up when I smashed it said "Do you want me to take it to the wreckers!!!" I fixed the car myself for $140 and It's still on the road today so yeah probably why I have a large tool kit...

Ha ha, love the sound of the vintage kit... stilsons, tyre levers... might come in handy to do some roadside plumbing!
While I don't stock an RAA card, I do take probably too much stuff... my essentials are 3/8 sockets, 8" shifter, pliers, reversible screwdriver, 10/12 spanner, coolant, and most important of all, duct tape and cable ties. Really, there's nothing you can't fix with a bit of duct tape and some cable ties... :-)

jv that tool looks so old that i wouldn't be surprised if it were date stamped in Roman Numerals lol
But if it does the job....then that's all that is required from it
