The Galant was able to hold it's own waaay back in the day - now the tech has been raised a fair bit. I hope he's got the skills to pay the bills - we all love to see the underdog win

Ive seen that thing in the flesh, its a good bit of gear, hope it all goes well and it can knock a few popular models down the leaderboards

Best thing i ever seen was rocking up to a Mopar orientated event thinking i would have the only galant there only to see this coming around the final turn on Queensland raceway.

Been a little while since I took interest in a Targa Tasmania.

Blockbuster is still around? I bought the DVD soon after it came out. Last DVD I have bought since I couldn't get it on Blu-Ray.

I have a niece in the USA that was surprised that we can still buy DVD's in Australia.

I'm not surprised at all.....in this day and age...."retro" is the latest phase......if it got any worse.....we'd be all be buying casette tapes and walkmans again...

I've bought that on DVD too. Still have a "Love the Beast" sticker somewhere too if I haven't already stuck it on my toolbox.

Hey Chris...go to the wreckers behind the servo at just up the road from the Doylson Bowlo and have a look at the Scorp in their old mitsi section. Cleanest /straightest body you will ever see. Perfect grey interior. Wish I had my camera with me. Only parts missing is the drivers door and guard.

Things arent looking good for Dan at the moment, any Tasmania members have a spare 4G54?

That is really sad to hear. Luckily it was just the engine and not anything worse. Looks like it was on Leg 2, TS15 that the engine failed. That was the second to last stage for the day.

yeah quite sad really, from what ive seen on facebook they are not going down without a fight, hopefully they can find a new motor and have it running by morning, but as they said, its going to be a long night for them

I think a Congratulations is in order, despite the engine issues, the Galant was ready to go the next morning, and after a few more issues it rolled across the Finish line under its own power. Awesome work to Dan and all that were involved

So cool to see a Galant amoungst the exotics and imports. Happy that he finished too.

I went down for the event to do a bit of spectating.
don't worry Dave, Dan can definately drive the thing. On one of the stages he was only a second slower than the V10 Audi R8. The engine in it was only putting out 90KW. If it wasn't for engine issues I think he could of quite possibly won his class. Hopefully he'll be back next year with stronger engine.
I know I'll definately be going back.

I for one plan on changing some of this BS. I plan on doing a little bit of track work with the wagon I'm building (funds are limited and so is time).

Dave that is a great idea, i have taken my sigmas to hill climb days and you do get a lot of WTF as goes the stigma with our cars but people are actually really interested as they want to know what you have done as its not common at all to see them.

I cant see the prices going up that much at all plus at the end of the day our cars and parts are dirt cheap anyway so it wont hurt the pocket too much, i for one would love to get some bolt on parts, it is fun to make your own custom parts but on the other hand would be great to be able to buy bolt on parts as well like the datsun and ford guys can.

You do get a lot of questions and confused looks, often at car shows too (since I'm less sporting, I have more experience with the show and shine thing than with sports events!), or even just driving around. But people are always interested, and you get positive remarks from the Datsun and Mazda guys too. We're definitely the underdog, but I think this goes with the Chrysler heritage territory... All the bad-guy and gangster cars are always Dodge/Chrysler, and they're usually the sleepers that are way more bad-ass than the rest too, and I dare say the same is for us.

I'm proud to be the Aussie battler with a car that is more bad-ass if less popular than a Datto or Mazda

As far as values go, the same thing happened with Valiants too, compared to their Ford and Holden counterparts, where they lagged behind for years. But eventually people woke up and E38s and E49s are the envy of all! In the meantime, I'll keep enjoying my cheaper, cooler and more unusual beast And hopefully we'll continue to see more SGs in events and at shows too!
