81 L200 4g54 swap

Post by Matty1134 »

Im considering doing a 4g54 swap into my L200 express from a triton. I am currently running a 4g52 and 4 speed from a sigma.

Few questions I have is is it a straight bolt in. I have read I may need to move my gearbox crossmember but its not much of a hassle.

2. Is are exhaust outlets the same as I already have a good extractor back system.

3. rules out question 2. I read somewhere (forgotten now) that you can bolt the 4g52 head to the 4g54 and it raises the compression. Just wondering if it is true and easy enough to do.

4. will I need a custom driveshaft or can I use one of the 2

I know you can move the gearbox Xmember on a Galant but you can't do that on an L200 there is only one place where it can be attached to the chassis rails so I assume that the L200 4speed either has a unique gearbox mount or there are different xmembers for both 4 and 5 Speeds. You might be best to get the matching gearbox Xmember and Driveshaft with the 5speed when you get it from the donor ute.
You will need Extractors or Exhaust Manifold to suit the astron engine, not the same as 4g32 but should be close to joining into existing system after extractors.
There is various astron heads that can raise or lower compression, but I reckon you will love the torque of the 2.6 engine in stock form after the 2.0litre.

I'm assuming that yours is a 2wd not 4wd

Sorry stuffed it up previously and I can't edit post, you have 4G52 in there now (dunno why I thought 4G32) so extractors will be the same for 52 and 54 engines

Physically the 4g52 and 4g54 auto blocks are the same, so will bolt straight in. But the 4g54 manual block has a wider gearbox bell-housing and a bigger flywheel/clutch ..so it will not mate up.
So if you want to use a 2.6 with a manual box..you will need to source both.

you'll find the drive shafts will be the same even one out of a triton will work. i suspect one from a pajero will also work.
